Inflight Training Instructor

The Opportunity

The Inflight Training Instructor is a pivotal role within the Flight Operations division, charged with the strategic delivery and management of the Company’s approved Inflight training programs. This specialist ensures that all trainee Flight Attendants adhere rigorously to established training guidelines and successfully complete all required curriculum components, maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be capable of executing the following critical functions:

  • Facilitates the formal, published, and approved curriculum for initial and recurrent Flight Attendant training, including the effective administration of both oral and written examinations.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains the comprehensive training curriculum materials, ensuring alignment with current regulatory requirements.
  • Manages all procedural documentation, including the timely completion, submission, and maintenance of all paperwork associated with formal training events.
  • Actively participates in mandated internal and external regulatory audits, including those conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), IOSA, and the Department of Defense (DOD).
  • Attends all scheduled Instructor standardization meetings and specialized briefings to maintain instructional consistency and regulatory knowledge.
  • Provides direct coaching, leadership, direction, motivation, and supervision to trainees. Assesses trainee performance, delivers constructive performance feedback, documents developmental progress, and recommends appropriate corrective actions or employment status adjustments.
  • Successfully completes all required Company training to attain and maintain both Flight Attendant and Instructor qualifications, including mandatory annual recurrent training.
  • Promotes and models the Company’s core values and unique culture throughout the training environment.
  • Performs special projects or other essential duties as assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required, coupled with a minimum of one (1) year of demonstrable experience in aviation, education, or professional training. Candidates must possess fundamental proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

An Associate’s degree or higher is preferred, along with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience. Prior experience in public speaking or as a professional instructor is highly desirable, as is advanced computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications.

Professional Requirements

The Instructor must possess polished and professional interpersonal skills, maintaining a positive attitude and a consistently customer-oriented mindset. The ability to manage interruptions and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment is crucial. Adherence to strict professional grooming standards is mandatory; visible tattoos or multiple visible piercings while in uniform are prohibited.

Regulatory and Physical Standards

Regulatory Compliance

The candidate must successfully pass an FAA-required 10-year work history review, criminal background checks, and fingerprint screening. A valid U.S. or foreign passport must be possessed and maintained. The individual must be legally authorized to work in the United States, able to travel internationally, and willing to submit to and pass FAA and Company-mandated random drug and alcohol tests.

Physical Demands

The Instructor must be capable of meeting the physical demands essential for emergency response and inflight safety duties, including:

  • Possessing the physical strength to operate all emergency equipment and exits, requiring necessary movements and force application up to 70 pounds.
  • Capability of lifting objects above the shoulders up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull moveable service carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, even during periods of aircraft turbulence.
  • The ability to stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and kneel is essential.
  • Must possess the ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more (with corrective lenses or contacts) and hear verbal communications clearly over aircraft systems amid ambient noise.
  • Must be able to move freely, effectively, and quickly within the confines of the aircraft environment and fit securely into an assigned jump seat without modification.

Reasoning and Decision Making

Candidates must demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, capable of interpreting complex technical procedures, manuals, and governmental regulations. The ability to think and react quickly under stress is mandatory, particularly during unexpected or emergency situations. The Instructor makes structured, day-to-day decisions that support strategic operational direction, processing information rapidly and reacting professionally during high levels of stress.

Work Environment and Travel

The role requires flexibility and the willingness to work a varied schedule to meet demanding operational needs. Travel up to 25% of the time is required, often including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended overnight stays.
