Pilot Instructor (C-130J)
Summary
The Pilot Instructor provides expert instruction on C-130J Aircraft Systems and operational procedures. This instruction is delivered across various environments including aircraft, classrooms, simulators, and practical settings. The role involves acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the C-130J, assisting in the development of new course curriculum as needed. Additional responsibilities may include administrative duties such as reviewing courseware, managing publications, ensuring safety standards, conducting quality audits, handling scheduling, and maintaining Flight Crew Information Files (FCIF). This position requires a Secret clearance and involves CONUS/OCONUS travel.
Responsibilities
- Delivering hands-on instruction and demonstration of C-130J Pilot procedures within C-130J aircraft, classroom settings, C-130J simulators, and other training platforms.
- Providing specialized training, including Visual Threat Recognition Avoidance Training (VTRAT), C-130J-specific Crew Resource Management (CRM), and Instrument Refresher Courses (IRC).
- Demonstrating thorough proficiency in evaluating, diagnosing, and critiquing student performance, identifying learning difficulties, and administering prescribed remedial instruction.
- Contributing as a C-130J Subject Matter Expert to the development of new course curriculum and the review or modification of existing lessons.
- Offering recommendations to enhance and update training policies and procedures.
- Cultivating a positive learning environment that encourages the adoption of new technologies and tasks.
- Conducting ground training for fellow crewmembers and providing diagnosis and remediation for student challenges.
- Assisting with assigned project and development initiatives.
- Executing administrative tasks such as scheduling, record keeping, monitoring student progress, providing counseling, conducting quality assurance, maintaining safety and security protocols, and managing training programs and equipment.
- Maintaining proficiency in the hands-on operation of essential C-130J Aircrew Training Devices.
- Acquiring and sustaining proficiency in instrument flight, take-off, landing, and emergency procedures.
- Evaluating instructor personnel in classroom and simulation environments when required.
- Performing biennial observation flights in Mission Essential Personnel (MEP) status aboard C-130J aircraft as necessary.
- Ensuring strict compliance with Air Education Training Command Instruction (AETCI) 36-2909.
- Maintaining physical ability to safely enter and navigate within simulator environments, including experiencing motion, and ensuring the safety of attendees on board. The role requires the ability to stand and conduct academic instruction for up to six hours daily in simulators and classrooms.
Qualifications
- Prior aircraft operating experience relevant to aviation instruction, enabling credibility with trainees.
- The ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
- Capability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Proficiency in generating effective oral and written presentations and proposals on intricate subjects.
- Ability to participate in periodic aircraft familiarization flights.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Competence in calculating figures, amounts, prices, commissions, and percentages, and the ability to draw and interpret graphs.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, along with the ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes.
- A Secret clearance is required.
