Aviation Maintenance Operations Manager
A leading organization in the aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector seeks a highly motivated and experienced professional to fill the pivotal role of Aviation Maintenance Operations Manager. Basic Function and Scope of Responsibility
The Aviation Maintenance Operations Manager operates under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Maintenance Operations. The Manager is responsible for the overall supervision, scheduling, and efficient setup of MRO projects and maintenance work packages. This role involves developing and implementing standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for day-to-day hangar operations. The Manager will supervise Group Supervisors, Team Leaders, and licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) to ensure the effective implementation of technical vocational training programs and maintenance services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following critical functions:
- Serve as the primary operational liaison between the Maintenance Department and associated flight operations, quality assurance, and supply chain divisions.
- Communicate aircraft status, progress reports, technical discrepancies, and critical needs to appropriate internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Function as an integral and productive member of the interdisciplinary team during project reviews, planning staff meetings, and technical briefings, preparing detailed reports as required.
- Develop, monitor, and implement specific individual work plans and maintenance schedules for high-value projects following comprehensive project reviews.
- Consult with the Quality Assurance department to develop, implement, and monitor robust behavioral management and safety programs within the hangar environment.
- Manage the setup and staging of complex maintenance jobs, clearly demonstrating effective workflows and technical setup protocols to Group Supervisors and Team Leaders.
- Conduct routine quality control audits of all ongoing maintenance activities and perform efficiency time studies on key production processes to optimize turnaround time (TAT).
- Ensure meticulous completion of technical logbook entries, maintenance records, and necessary computer data entry regarding work packages.
- Direct the routine functional verification and calibration of all critical vocational and maintenance support equipment, including specialized tooling, scales, test benches, and blister pack machines, ensuring complete operational readiness.
- Coordinate and direct maintenance team assignments during non-peak operational hours (AM and PM) when primary work groups are not present.
- Oversee the accurate checking and traceability of all inbound parts and materials required for project completion, ensuring MRO supply chain integrity.
- Review and monitor programmatic documentation of technician progress and project status on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Complete annual performance and vocational skill assessments in conjunction with Group Supervisors or Team Leaders.
- Supervise and mentor Group Supervisors, Team Leaders, and AMTs during technical training sessions, including instruction on documentation procedures and daily reporting requirements.
- Execute annual performance evaluations for all supervised staff, or more frequently if job performance standards necessitate intervention.
- Function as a lead technical trainer, developing and conducting orientation sessions for direct care staff focused on job responsibilities, the implementation of new programs, procedures, and core vocational activities.
- Act as the designated on-duty facility supervisor during the absence of the Vice President, assuming full responsibility for maintenance operations.
- Propose and champion improvements to maintenance policies, operational procedures, and program suggestions to the Vice President.
- Supervise and participate actively in mandatory safety and emergency response drills (e.g., hangar evacuations) as scheduled.
- Intervene immediately in compliance with organizational philosophy and safety procedures during critical safety or personnel events, reporting all incidents to the appropriate regulatory agency (e.g., FAA) and/or supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Minimum age of 21 years at the time of employment.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required.
- Demonstrated capability to effectively intervene and manage complex technical, behavioral, or health-related crises.
- A minimum of one (1) year of dedicated supervisory experience within an MRO environment or a certified Part 145 repair station.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and qualify as an authorized company vehicle operator.
