The Integrated Airborne Solutions (IAS) Division of the Airborne Systems Business Area currently seeks a highly qualified UH-60L/M Simulator Instructor Operator (SIO) to support the critical Army National Guard (ANG) Aviation Training Services and Operational Support (ATSOS) program located in Camp Ripley, MN.
As the prime contractor, Leidos provides essential aviation flight training, advanced simulation training, classroom instruction, and comprehensive schoolhouse support activities. This includes integration into the One Army School System (OASS) and maintenance of Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) for current and anticipated ANG platforms and simulation devices.
The Role: Simulator Instructor Operator (SIO)
The Simulator Instructor Operator will be a vital contributor to the Army Aviation Training Site (AATS) training mission, supporting regionally assigned units through instruction on various simulation devices. These devices may include the UH-72A Cockpit Procedure Trainer (CPT), UH-72A Synthetic Flight Training System (SFTS), Advanced Blackhawk Flight Simulator (ABHFS), UH-60A/L SFTS, CH-47F Transportable Flight Proficiency Simulator (TFPS), and the UH-60L/M Blackhawk Aviation Trainer (BAT).
The SIO is responsible for providing high-fidelity simulation training for approved Programs of Instruction (POIs), meeting Army Training Manual (ATM) requirements for aviators, conducting necessary familiarization training, and managing approved tours.
Essential Responsibilities and Primary Duties
The Simulator Instructor Operator is entrusted with managing and executing a wide range of training, instructional, and administrative duties:
Instructional and Training Development
- Deliver simulated flight training to AATS students and regional simulation users, emphasizing the proficient use of all aircraft systems, emergency procedures training, and instrument flight procedures.
- Develop and maintain relevant mission training scenarios tailored for regional users.
- Provide rigorous instruction and evaluation to student pilots in accordance with Training Support Packages for AATS-approved courses of instruction.
- Conduct Aircrew Coordination Training-Enhanced (ACT-E) training strictly adhering to the approved course Training Support Package.
- Conduct academic platform instruction for several advanced courses, including the Instructor Operator course, Instrument Flight Examiner Prep course, Instrument Flight Examiner Distributive Learning course, Instrument Flight Examiner R1 course, and Instrument Refresher course, as well as specific AATS courses such as the Aviation Qualification Course, Instructor Pilot Course, and Maintenance Test Pilot Course.
- Facilitate thorough pre-mission planning and subsequent After Action Reviews (AARs) for all simulation periods conducted.
Program Administration and Coordination
- Maintain accurate training records for formal course students and ensure all required updates are entered into the Aircrew Training Program (ATP) records for unit and readiness level (RL) progression trainees.
- Fulfill all aircrew training program (ATP) requirements in strict compliance with DCMA INST 8210-1D, AR 95-1, and the applicable Aviation Training Manual (dATM). Contract pilots must participate fully in the No-notice evaluation program.
- Serve as the RFMSS Fire Desk Operator within the Army range and facility scheduling system (RFMSS), ensuring every simulator training period is scheduled in RFMSS within 12 hours of receipt and closed out within 24 hours.
- Develop, update, and publish comprehensive training schedules via an electronic database, and conduct an annual simulation scheduling conference.
- Track schedule changes diligently and prepare detailed monthly utilization reports for flight simulators and hardware maintenance trainers supporting the AATS.
- Coordinate daily with the War Fighter Focus Contract (WFFC)/Army TADSS Maintenance Plan (ATMP) simulator maintenance contractor to track simulator maintenance status and service requests.
- Coordinate with unit course managers, regional users, the National Guard Bureau (NGB), and PEO-STRI representatives to guarantee proper utilization of allocated hours/devices in accordance with FR 350-1 and AR 95-1.
- Verify and correct WFFC/ATMP contractors’ monthly device performance reports and forward them to the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR).
- Maintain and semi-annually review a required publication library, including historical and facilities reports for all supported simulators.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
Candidates must meet the following experience and qualification criteria:
- A High School Diploma complemented by a minimum of eight (8) years of applicable experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with at least four (4) years of experience.
- Candidates must be qualified as an Instructor Pilot (IP) in the respective aircraft simulator and an Instrument Flight Examiner (IFE), OR possess documented three (3) years of experience as an Aviation Simulator Instructor Operator (I/O) in the required aircraft device. I/O qualifications must be readily available upon request.
- Prior experience training or operating with Army Aviation (or Military Equivalent) is mandatory.
- USAACE / AATS qualified Instructor Pilot in the airframe for which simulation duties will be performed, or a minimum of three (3) years of experience as an I/O in the assigned device.
- Must be qualified via the Instructor Training Course (ITC) or the Army Basic Instructor Course (ABIC), or successfully graduate from an AATS-provided ABIC course within 12 months of the contractor employment start date.
- Must satisfy all instructor qualification requirements as defined by the Aviation proponent and in accordance with TR 350-10 and TR 350-70.
- Must be qualified as a unit trainer, an Instructor Pilot, or a Maintenance Test Flight Examiner with demonstrated simulator operations experience.
- Must be a USAACE qualified Instrument Flight Examiner.
- If not an Instructor Pilot, the candidate must satisfactorily complete the unit aircrew training program within three (3) months of starting work, in accordance with AR 95-1, 4-11e(2) and FR 350-1.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance is required.

Compensation and EEO Statement
Pay Range: $63,700.00 – $115,150.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Compensation is based on factors including responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
