Job Summary
The Integrated Airborne Solutions (IAS) Division of the Airborne Systems Business Area at Leidos is actively seeking a highly qualified Lakota LUH-72A Synthetic Flight Training Simulator (SFTS) Instructor Operator. This crucial position supports the Army National Guard (ANG) Aviation Training Services and Operational Support (ATSOS) program, situated at the Fixed-Wing Army Aviation Training Site (FWAATS) in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
The Instructor Operator will play an instrumental role as a prime contractor, providing comprehensive flight training, simulation training, classroom instruction, and essential schoolhouse support activities. These responsibilities include the integration of the One Army School System (OASS) and the maintenance of Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) for various platforms and simulation devices currently in use or anticipated by the Army National Guard.
This role involves delivering training according to approved Programs of Instruction (POIs) and Army Training Manual (ATM) simulation training requirements for aviators assigned to regionally supported units. The Instructor Operator will also provide familiarization training and tours as approved through the ARNG. A unique opportunity exists for the successful candidate to cross-train at the FWAATS schoolhouse in a C-12/King Air 200 aircraft through a provided Aircraft Qualification Course (AQC), further enhancing their aviation expertise.
Key Responsibilities
The Simulator Instructor Operator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Providing simulated flight training to AATS students and regional simulation users, with a strong emphasis on the proper use of all aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and instrument flight procedures.
- Developing and maintaining mission training scenarios tailored for regional users.
- Delivering instruction and conducting evaluations for student pilots in strict accordance with Training Support Packages for AATS-approved courses of instruction.
- Conducting Aircrew Coordination Training-Enhanced (ACT-E) Training consistent with approved course Training Support Packages.
- Maintaining accurate training records for formal course students and updating Aircrew Training Program (ATP) records as required for unit and readiness level (RL) progression trainees.
- Performing academic platform instruction for various specialized courses, including the Instructor Operator course, Instrument Flight Examiner Preparation course, Instrument Flight Examiner Distributive Learning course, Instrument Flight Examiner R1 course, Instrument Refresher course; and AATS courses such as the Aviation Qualification Course, Instructor Pilot Course, and Maintenance Test Pilot Course.
- Facilitating pre-mission planning and comprehensive after-action reviews for all conducted simulation periods.
- Ensuring completion of all Aircrew Training Program (ATP) requirements in accordance with DCMA INST 8210-1D, AR 95-1, and the applicable Digital Army Training Manual (dATM). Contract pilots shall participate in the No-notice evaluation program.
- Developing, updating, and publishing schedules through an electronic database.
- Conducting an annual simulation scheduling conference.
- Tracking schedule changes and preparing monthly reports for flight simulators and hardware maintenance trainers supporting the AATS.
- Coordinating daily with the War Fighter Focus Contract (WFFC)/Army TADSS Maintenance Plan (ATMP) simulator maintenance contractor to monitor simulator maintenance status and service requests.
- Coordinating with unit course managers to block formal course simulation time.
- Collaborating with regional users, National Guard Bureau, and PEO-STRI representatives to ensure proper utilization of allocated hours and devices in compliance with FR 350-1 and AR 95-1, and providing monthly utilization reports.
- Verifying and correcting, as required, the WFFC/ATMP contractors' monthly device performance reports and forwarding them to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COTR).
- Updating the flight schedule in accordance with appropriate maintenance schedules.
- Maintaining and conducting semi-annual reviews of a publication library that includes historical information and facilities reports for all simulators.
- Acting as an RFMSS (Army Range and Facility Scheduling System) Fire Desk Operator, responsible for scheduling every simulator training period within 12 hours of receipt and closing out each simulator training day within 24 hours.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following essential qualifications:
- A High School Diploma with a minimum of eight (8) years of applicable experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with at least four (4) years of experience.
- Qualification as an Instructor Pilot (IP) in the LUH-72A simulator and an Instrument Flight Examiner (IFE), OR documented three (3) years of experience as an Aviation Simulator Instructor Operator (I/O) in the LUH-72A. I/O qualifications shall be made available to the COR upon request.
- Prior experience training or operating with Army Aviation (or military equivalent).
- USAACE / AATS qualified Instructor Pilot in the LUH-72A for which simulation duties will be performed, or a minimum of three (3) years of experience as an I/O in the assigned device.
- Instructor Training Course (ITC) or ABIC qualified; or the ability to successfully graduate from an AATS-provided ABIC course within twelve (12) months of the contractor employee start date.
- Ability to meet instructor qualification requirements as defined by the Aviation proponent and in accordance with TR 350-10 and TR 350-70.
- Qualification as a unit trainer, an Instructor Pilot, or a Maintenance Test Flight Examiner with demonstrated simulator operations experience in the LUH-72A Lakota or an equivalent Airbus H145 aircraft.
- USAACE qualified Instrument Flight Examiner.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete the unit aircrew training program within three (3) months of starting work if not an Instructor Pilot, in compliance with AR95-1, 4-11e(2) and FR350-1.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
