LUH-72A Lakota Instructor Pilot
Leidos is seeking a highly qualified and experienced LUH-72A Lakota Instructor Pilot to support the Army National Guard (ANG) Aviation Training Services and Operational Support (ATSOS) program. This critical role is based in Marana, AZ, at the Western Army Aviation Training Site (WAATS).

Program Overview
The Integrated Airborne Solutions (IAS) Division, part of the Airborne Systems Business Area at Leidos, serves as the prime contractor for the ANG Aviation Training Services and Operational Support (ATSOS) program. This comprehensive program encompasses flight training, simulation training, classroom instruction, and vital schoolhouse support activities. Key elements include the One Army School System (OASS) integration and Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) maintenance for various platforms and simulation devices currently in use or anticipated for use by the Army National Guard.
Role Description
The Instructor Pilot will provide essential in-flight instruction on AATS-assigned LUH-72A aircraft, including instructor qualification courses, readiness level progressions, regional and foreign military training. The selected individual will also conduct associated Instructor Operator tasks and deliver platform academic instruction, directly supporting the AATS student training mission. All training activities must strictly adhere to AR 95-1, TRADOC Programs of Instruction (POI), UH-60 dATM, local AATS SOPs, and DCMA INST 8210-1D requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the LUH-72A Lakota Instructor Pilot include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining accurate training records for formal course students and Aircrew Training Program (ATP) records for unit and readiness level (RL) progression trainees.
- Delivering instruction and evaluation to student pilots in accordance with Training Support Packages for AATS approved courses of instruction.
- Conducting daily academic instruction for approved Programs of Instruction (POI), which includes the Aircraft Qualification Course, Instructor Pilot Course, Aircraft Standardization Course, Maintenance Test Pilot Course, and Aviation Tactics Instructor Course (ATIC).
- Facilitating thorough pre-mission planning and comprehensive after-action reviews for all conducted flights and simulation periods.
- Completing all Aircrew Training Program (ATP) requirements in strict adherence to DCMA INST 8210-1D, AR 95-1, and the applicable Digital Aircrew Training Module (dATM). Contract pilots are required to participate in the No-notice evaluation program.
- Coordinating daily tasks and requirements, such as work schedules and leave, for contract employees to ensure AATS missioned training requirements and schoolhouse accreditation are met, as directed by AATS chains of command.
- Ensuring full compliance with all appropriate Army, National Guard, and AATS policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Coordinating with the Government Flight Representative (GFR) to confirm all contractors are qualified to perform aviation-training tasks in accordance with DCMA INST 8210.1D.
- Reporting Instructor Flight and Operation data for inclusion in the Task Order Monthly Report.
Required Qualifications
- A High School Diploma with at least 8 years of applicable experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
- Demonstrated Instructor Pilot experience with a minimum of 250 military IP Flight Hours and/or 2 years of IP experience at any USAACE approved or OASS accredited program. Flight time and operational experience will be considered to meet stated experience requirements based on a records review by the GFR in accordance with DCMA INST 8210-1D.
- USAACE/AATS (or equivalent Army approved New Equipment Training (NET)) qualified Instructor Pilot in the specific aircraft type for which duties will be performed.
- Instructor Training Course (ITC) or ABIC qualified; or successful graduation from an AATS provided ABIC course within 12 months of the contractor employee start date.
- Possession of a valid FAA Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
- A current FAA Second Class flight physical or an Army Class 2 Flight Duty Medical Examination (FDME), as per DCMA 8210.1D, paragraph 4.3.5.1.2.
- Experience as a Standardization Pilot (SP), Instrument Examiner (IE), and/or Instructor Pilot (IP) within an OASS school, MTOE, or TDA organization at the company and/or battalion level.
- Contractor pilots designated as Instrument Flight Examiners (IE), Standardization Instructor Pilots (SP), Instructor Pilots (IP), and Maintenance Evaluators (ME) for the sole purpose of conducting aircraft qualification training and administration of the Aircrew Training Program (ATP) shall meet all Army initial aircraft qualifications and recurrent training requirements per AR 95-1 and the applicable aircraft Digital Aircrew Training Module (dATM) (DCMA 8210.1D, paragraph 4.3.4.3).
- Adherence to instructor qualification requirements in accordance with TR 350-10 and TR 350-70.
- Compliance with minimum qualifications for performing flight operations in the role of Rated Crewmember (Instructor Pilot, Instrument Flight Examiner, Standardization Instructor Pilot, Maintenance Test Pilot, Functional Check Pilot) or Non-Rated Crewmember (Flight Engineer Instructor, Flight Instructor, Crew Chief) as prescribed by DCMA INST 8210.1D.
- All contractor Rated Crewmembers and Non-Rated Crewmembers will complete ACT-E qualification and sustainment training in accordance with TC 3-04.11.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products.
- Instructor Pilot experience at EAATS, HAATS, WAATS, or a U.S. Army Aviation Training Center.
- Desired USAACE qualified Instrument Flight Examiner (IFE) designation.
Compensation
The estimated annual pay range for this position is $85,150.00 – $153,925.00. The Leidos pay range for this job level serves as a general guideline. Final compensation or salary is determined by various factors, including the responsibilities of the job, the candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, any applicable bargaining agreement, or other relevant legal considerations.
