The Integrated Airborne Solutions (IAS) Division within Leidos' Airborne Systems Business Area is seeking a skilled Lakota Simulator Instructor Operator to support the Army National Guard (ANG) Aviation Training Services and Operational Support (ATSOS) program. Located in Edgewood, MD, Leidos serves as the prime contractor, providing essential services including flight training, simulation training, classroom instruction, and schoolhouse support. This encompasses One Army School System (OASS) integration and Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) maintenance for platforms and simulation devices currently utilized or anticipated for use by the Army National Guard.
This position plays a vital role in supporting the AATS training mission and regionally supported units. The work involves utilizing various simulation devices, including the LUH-72A Cockpit Procedure Trainer (CPT), LUH-72A Synthetic Flight Training System (SFTS), Advanced Blackhawk Flight Simulator (ABHFS), UH-60A/L SFTS, CH-47F Transportable Flight Proficiency Simulator (TFPS), and UH-60V/M Blackhawk Aviation Trainer (BAT). The Simulator Instructor Operator is responsible for delivering training based on approved Programs of Instruction (POIs), fulfilling ATM simulation training requirements for aviators in regionally supported units, conducting familiarization training, and facilitating approved tours.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides simulated flight training to AATS students and regional simulation users, with a strong emphasis on the proper use of all aircraft systems, emergency procedure training, and instrument flight procedures.
- Develops and maintains mission training scenarios for regional users.
- Delivers instruction and evaluation to student pilots in accordance with Training Support Packages for AATS-approved courses of instruction.
- Conducts Aircrew Coordination Training-Enhanced (ACT-E) Training in accordance with approved course Training Support Package.
- Maintains training records for formal course students and updates ATP records as required for unit readiness level progression trainees.
- Conducts academic platform instruction for the Instructor Operator course, Instrument Flight Examiner Prep course, Instrument Flight Examiner Distributive Learning course, Instrument Flight Examiner R1 course, Instrument Refresher course; and AATS courses including the Aviation Qualification Course, Instructor Pilot Course, and Maintenance Test Pilot Course, following approved POI.
- Facilitates pre-mission planning and after-action reviews for all conducted simulation periods.
- Completes all aircrew training program (ATP) requirements in accordance with DCMA INST 8210-1D, AR 95-1, and the applicable dATM. The contractor pilot shall participate in the No-notice evaluation program.
- Develops, updates, and publishes schedules via an electronic database.
- Conducts annual simulation scheduling conferences.
- Tracks schedule changes and prepares monthly reports for flight simulators and hardware maintenance trainers supporting the AATS.
- Coordinates daily with the War Fighter Focus Contract (WFFC)/Army TADSS Maintenance Plan (ATMP) simulator maintenance contractor to track simulator maintenance status and service requests.
- Coordinates with unit course managers to block formal course simulation time.
- Coordinates with regional users, National Guard Bureau, and PEO-STRI representatives to ensure proper utilization of allocated hours/devices in accordance with FR 350-1 and AR 95-1, and provides monthly utilization reports.
- Verifies and corrects, as required, the WFFC/ATMP contractors' monthly device performance reports and forwards them to the COTR.
- Updates the flight schedule in accordance with the appropriate maintenance schedule.
- Maintains and semi-annually reviews a publication library that includes historical information and facilities reports for all simulators.
- Acts as an RFMSS Fire Desk Operator in the Army range and facility scheduling system (RF-MSS), scheduling each simulator training period within 12 hours of receipt and closing out each simulator training day within 24 hours.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma with 8 years of applicable experience or a Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of experience.
- Qualified as an Instructor Pilot in the respective aircraft simulator and an Instrument Flight Examiner, or possesses documented three years of experience as an Aviation Simulator I/O in the required aircraft device. I/O qualifications must be made available to the COR upon request.
- Prior experience training or operating with Army Aviation (or Military Equivalent).
- USAACE / AATS qualified Instructor Pilot in the airframe for which simulation duties will be performed, or has a minimum of 3 years of experience as an I/O in the assigned device.
- Instructor Training Course (ITC) or ABIC qualified; or must successfully graduate from an AATS-provided ABIC course within 12 months of the contractor employee start date.
- Meets instructor qualification requirements as defined by the Aviation proponent and in accordance with TR 350-10, TR 350-70.
- Qualified as a unit trainer, an instructor pilot, or a maintenance test flight examiner with demonstrated simulator operations experience.
- USAACE qualified Instrument Flight Examiner.
- Must satisfactorily complete the unit aircrew training program within 3 months of starting work if not an instructor pilot, in accordance with AR95-1, 4-11e(2) and FR350-1.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products.
