Senior Instructor - National Airspace System Integration Support (NISC IV)
The Leidos National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team is seeking a dynamic Senior Instructor to support the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Eastern Service Area (ESA) NISC team. This role provides crucial technical instruction for new hire Electronics personnel, equipping them with the requisite skills for fiber optics projects assigned to Engineering Services, thereby contributing significantly to outstanding customer service for FAA customers receiving NISC services. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage extensive experience in support of the NISC IV mission.
This position functions as a remote consulting role and can be based anywhere in the U.S., with the requirement for travel to Lakeland, FL, or other locations as needed to conduct in-person classes.
Primary Responsibilities:
As a Senior Level Instructor or Trainer, this position includes providing classroom instruction to students through various methods such as lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and testing. Courses will be taught in-person, potentially including both day and evening sessions.
The Senior Instructor is responsible for assisting students in developing the fundamental skills required to serve as an entry-level fiber optic cable installer or technician. Key instructional duties involve:
- Instructing fundamental principles of fiber optic technology, including knowledge of different fiber types, splicing techniques, network design, safety protocols, and the use of specialized tools to connect and activate fiber optic networks.
- Teaching electronic and fiber optic fundamental safety, encompassing topics such as the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe handling of cables, correct handling of various chemicals, cleaners, and adhesives, adherence to industry standards, and ensuring proper training to avoid injury and damage.
- Providing both classroom-based and laboratory instruction to students.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this Senior Instructor position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Possesses a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 12 years of working knowledge pertaining to FAA electrical and electronics systems.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of standard computer applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Engineering Scheduling tools and applications, with the ability to effectively use the Internet as a tool for information gathering and communication.
- Exhibits strong communication skills, capable of effectively communicating in both written and verbal forms. This includes the ability to accomplish clear and concise general and technical writing, and to tactfully coordinate with a diverse group of project stakeholders, peers, and management levels.
- Holds a basic knowledge across multiple disciplines regarding their general requirements for typical FAA electrical and electronics systems.
