Position Summary

The Pilot in Command (PIC) is a pivotal role reporting directly to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures. The PIC bears complete responsibility for the safe and efficient conduct of all assigned flight operations, with an unyielding emphasis on safety, security, and exceptional quality. The PIC exercises final Pilot in Command authority for all flights assigned and serves as the ultimate decision-maker concerning the safety and security of the aircraft, crew, and passengers.

Main Responsibilities

The Pilot in Command is responsible for the successful execution of complex flight missions and the leadership of the flight crew:

  • Safely operates the assigned aircraft, determines optimal departure times and routes, and exercises final judgment to cancel flights based on prevailing weather or operational conditions.
  • Ensures that all flight activities are executed in complete compliance with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Institutes all necessary procedural changes required by en route conditions, ensuring continuous adherence to appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Conducts the flight in a safe and prudent manner, maintaining strict accordance with both industry and company standards.
  • Completes all required trip paperwork accurately and thoroughly in alignment with current operational procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains a thorough understanding and coordination with the Second in Command (SIC) regarding all aspects of the flight plan and execution.
  • Records all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log as they occur and immediately reports these issues to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or designee.
  • Utilizes the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and, as directed by the DOM or designee, determines if inoperative items can be deferred or require immediate repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log as required.
  • Determines that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is certified as mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintains a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all associated emergency systems and procedures.
  • Secures the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
  • Obtains the most current weather reports, forecasts, and Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) from a certified FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
  • Files or causes a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
  • Analyzes area, en route, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and any designated alternates.
  • Performs the functions of the In-flight TSA Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of applicable standard security programs (e.g., Twelve Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program).
  • Conducts the required passenger safety briefings or delegates that duty to the Second in Command.
  • Imparts professional knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them to assume the duties of Pilot in Command during an emergency or as they progress toward upgrading to the PIC role in that aircraft type.
  • Completes and sends the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
  • Completes and sends the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
  • Actively supports the open sharing of information on all safety issues and is responsible for reporting all safety hazards and concerns immediately.
  • Makes an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and the Director of Safety.
  • The PIC may delegate specific duties but retains full responsibility for the execution of those duties.
  • Represents Jet Aviation as one cohesive company, both internally and externally, engaging professionally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following mandatory qualifications to be considered for this Pilot in Command opportunity:

  • Must possess an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) with the appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Must obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical certificate.
  • 3,500 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
  • 1,500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
  • 1,500 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight time.
  • 1,500 hours Turbojet flight time.
  • 500 hours Turbine flight time.
  • 100 hours Night flight time.
  • 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional aviation experience.
  • Must be available and willing to work flexible schedules, including non-standard hours.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively worldwide without any restrictions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Compensation Data

The likely salary range for this position is $240,000 - $260,000. Please note that this is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. The final salary will be determined based on experience, specific geographic location, and other applicable professional requirements.

Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

The employee will encounter a diverse work environment, ranging from a heavy aircraft maintenance setting to upscale customer service areas. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with occasional high volume during aircraft arrivals and departures. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may permeate the workplace. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. Hangar environments may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures during seasonal changes. The noise level in the hangar environment is usually loud.
