Position Summary
Jet Aviation is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Gulfstream 550 Captain to join its esteemed Flight Services team in Farmingdale, New York. This pivotal role requires the Captain, acting as Pilot in Command, to hold ultimate authority and responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient conduct of all assigned flights. The Captain reports directly to the Lead Captain, ensuring strict adherence to company operating policies and procedures while consistently upholding the highest standards of aviation safety, security, and quality in every flight operation.
Key Responsibilities
The Gulfstream 550 Captain’s responsibilities are comprehensive and critical, ensuring the seamless and compliant operation of all assigned flights. Key duties include:
- Exercising full Pilot in Command authority, making critical and timely decisions regarding departure times, routes, and potential flight cancellations based on prevailing weather or operational conditions.
- Ensuring strict adherence to all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures throughout every phase of flight.
- Implementing necessary in-flight adjustments due to en route conditions, maintaining compliance with all appropriate company protocols.
- Operating the aircraft in a safe, prudent, and professional manner, consistent with industry best practices and company standards.
- Accurately completing all required trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
- Fostering clear and thorough communication with the Second in Command (SIC) on all aspects of flight operations, promoting a cohesive and effective cockpit environment.
- Diligently recording and promptly reporting all aircraft discrepancies to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or designee, utilizing the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) to determine deferral or necessary repair actions.
- Verifying that all assigned flight crew members report for duty in proper attire and are physically and mentally fit for flight.
- Maintaining an expert-level working knowledge of all aircraft systems, including all emergency systems and procedures, for authorized aircraft types.
- Securing the aircraft post-flight, including arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Obtaining and analyzing the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized agencies.
- Preparing and filing flight plans with the FAA or relevant ICAO state ATC facilities.
- Conducting detailed analysis of area, en route, and terminal charts for intended destinations and alternate airports.
- Serving as the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as per the provisions of the 12.5 Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program, as applicable.
- Performing or delegating required passenger safety briefings.
- Actively mentoring and imparting knowledge and skills to the Second in Command, preparing them for potential Pilot in Command duties during emergencies or future upgrades.
- Submitting leg manifests to operations control prior to each departure and End of Day (EOD) reports upon completion of each flight day.
- Championing a proactive safety culture, actively sharing information on all safety issues, and promptly reporting all safety hazards and concerns to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Representing Jet Aviation with utmost professionalism and integrity, both internally and externally, with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the wider General Dynamics network.
- May delegate certain duties, but retains full responsibility for their execution.
Minimum Requirements
Prospective candidates for this distinguished role must possess the following essential qualifications:
- An Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with the appropriate Gulfstream 550 Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 4,000 hours total fixed-wing flight time.
- At least 1,500 hours in multi-engine land aircraft.
- A minimum of 2,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command.
- At least 1,500 hours in turbojet aircraft.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours of turbine time.
- At least 100 hours of night flight time.
- A minimum of 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time.
- A proven track record of at least five years of professional aviation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, accommodating the dynamic nature of corporate aviation.
- Willingness and capability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment & Benefits
This role operates within a dynamic environment encompassing both heavy maintenance facilities and upscale customer areas. While noise levels are typically moderate, occasional high volumes may occur during aircraft arrivals and departures. Employees may experience frequent vibration and occasional fuel fumes, and must be prepared to work in all types of weather conditions. The hangar environment can experience extreme temperatures during certain seasons.
