This pivotal role holds ultimate responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient execution of all assigned flight assignments. The Captain is the final authority for the conduct of each flight, ensuring rigorous adherence to all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures, with paramount emphasis on safety, security, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the Gulfstream 550 aircraft with the highest level of proficiency, including making informed decisions regarding departure times, routes, and flight cancellations based on prevailing weather or other operational conditions.
  • Ensure all flight operations are conducted in complete compliance with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Institute all necessary in-flight adjustments and changes dictated by en-route conditions, ensuring the flight continues safely and within established company guidelines.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and prudence throughout all flight operations, aligning with both industry best practices and company standards.
  • Accurately complete all required trip documentation in accordance with current operational procedures.
  • Foster a thorough and mutual understanding with the Second in Command (SIC) regarding all aspects of flight planning, execution, and emergency protocols.
  • Document all aircraft discrepancies on the discrepancy log as they occur, reporting them immediately to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designated representative. In consultation with the DOM, determine if an inoperative item can be deferred or requires immediate repair, following the Approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL).
  • Verify that all assigned flight crew members report for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures, for the aircraft type authorized to operate.
  • Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging for hangar storage as deemed necessary or as instructed by company management.
  • Obtain the most current and relevant weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized FAA flight service stations or other approved agencies.
  • File or ensure the proper filing of comprehensive flight plans with the FAA or an appropriate ICAO state Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of area, en-route, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and designated alternate airports.
  • Perform duties as the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as required under applicable standard security programs.
  • Conduct mandatory passenger safety briefings or delegate this duty to the Second in Command.
  • Actively mentor and impart essential knowledge and skills to the Second in Command, preparing them to assume PIC duties in emergency situations or for future upgrade opportunities.
  • Complete and transmit the leg manifest to Operations Control prior to each departure.
  • Complete and transmit the End of Day (EOD) report to Operations Control upon conclusion of each flight day.
  • Actively support and contribute to an open safety culture by sharing information on all safety issues and promptly reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
  • Immediately report any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
  • While the Captain may delegate specific duties, ultimate responsibility for their execution remains with the Pilot in Command.
  • Perform other duties as required to support operational excellence and company objectives.
  • Represent Jet Aviation as a unified entity, both internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and within the General Dynamics network.
