Position Summary
The Pilot-in-Command (PIC) for the Gulfstream 650 is a pivotal role, responsible for the safe, secure, and efficient execution of all assigned flights. This position emphasizes maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and quality in every aspect of flight operations. The Pilot-in-Command exercises ultimate authority over all flights to which they are assigned, serving as the final decision-maker for the safe conduct of the flight. The PIC reports directly to the Lead Captain, ensuring full adherence to company operating policies and procedures, and demonstrating exceptional leadership in a dynamic aviation environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Must possess an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with the appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- A minimum of 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Turbojet flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Turbine flight time.
- A minimum of 100 hours Night flight time.
- A minimum of 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument time.
- At least 5 years of professional aviation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, including irregular hours and weekends.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Main Responsibilities
The Pilot-in-Command's core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Safely operating the aircraft, accurately determining departure times and routes, and making judicious decisions to cancel flights based on prevailing weather or other critical conditions.
- Ensuring that all flights are conducted in complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Implementing all necessary changes as required by en-route conditions, ensuring the flight continues under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conducting the flight in a safe and prudent manner, strictly in accordance with industry and company standards.
- Ensuring accurate completion of all trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
- Fostering a thorough and complete understanding with the Second-in-Command (SIC) regarding all aspects of flight operations.
- Accurately recording all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately reporting these discrepancies to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designee. Referring to the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and, as directed by the DOM, determining if the inoperative item can be deferred or needs repair, and completing the aircraft discrepancy log as required.
- Determining that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and that they are mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Maintaining a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems which they are authorized to operate, including all emergency systems and procedures associated with the aircraft.
- Securing the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or if instructed by company management.
- Obtaining the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
- Filing or causing a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility.
- Analyzing area, en-route, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and designated alternates.
- Performing the functions of the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provision of the Twelve-Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program, as applicable.
- Conducting the required passenger safety briefings or assigning that duty to the Second-in-Command.
- Imparting knowledge and skills to the Second-in-Command to prepare them to assume the duties of Pilot-in-Command in an emergency or when the Second-in-Command upgrades to Pilot-in-Command in that aircraft.
- Completing and sending the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completing and sending the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Taking an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
- Making an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- The Pilot-in-Command may delegate these duties but not the responsibility for those duties.
- Representing the company as a unified entity internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the broader General Dynamics network.
- Performing other duties as required to support flight operations.
