A Captain is sought to serve as Pilot in Command of a Gulfstream 500 aircraft based in Dulles, Virginia. The Pilot in Command reports to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures. The Pilot in Command is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of assigned flight assignments, with a strong emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Captain will exercise Pilot in Command authority on all flights to which they are assigned and serve as the final authority for the safe conduct of the flight. This role requires instituting all necessary changes as required by en route conditions such that the flight may continue under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
The Captain is responsible for safely operating the aircraft, determining departure times and routes, and/or cancelling flights based on weather or other conditions. The Captain ensures that the flight is conducted in complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures. The Captain is responsible for conducting the flight in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with industry and company standards. This includes accurate completion of all trip paperwork according to current procedures and ensuring a thorough understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of flight.
The Captain records all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately reports these discrepancies to the Director of Maintenance or their designee as soon as possible. The Captain refers to the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and, as directed by the Director of Maintenance or designee, determines if the inoperative item can be deferred or needs to be repaired, completing the aircraft discrepancy log as required. The Captain determines that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
Maintaining a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized to operate, including all emergency systems and associated procedures, is essential. The Captain secures the aircraft after each flight, which may include arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management. The Captain obtains the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized sources and files or causes a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility. Analysis of area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates is required.
The Captain performs the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of the applicable standard security program (Twelve Five or Private Charter). The Captain conducts required passenger safety briefings or assigns that duty to the Second in Command. An important aspect of the role is imparting knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them to assume Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or upon upgrading to Pilot in Command in that aircraft type.
The Captain completes and sends the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure and completes and sends the End of Day (EOD) report upon completion of each flight day. The Captain is responsible for taking an active role supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns. The Captain is also responsible for making an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety. The Pilot in Command may delegate these duties but retains overall responsibility. Other duties may be required as needed. The Captain represents Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
