First Officer
Job Summary
FlySafair is seeking a skilled and dedicated First Officer to join its dynamic flight operations team. This permanent, market-related salary position is based in JHB and requires a professional individual with a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and superior customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of flight in a timely manner, monitoring flight paths and aircraft systems.
- Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and procedures according to company standards and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, external service providers, and passengers.
- Navigate and operate the aircraft, ensuring compliance with all applicable aviation laws and company policies.
- Uphold the company's core competitive edge by delivering excellent customer service.
- Submit accurate and complete legal administrative documentation.
- Assume command in the event of the Captain's incapacitation.
- Stay updated with applicable SACAA and international aviation laws, and company Operations Manuals.
- Assist the Captain with operational and administrative duties, and in upholding crew discipline, behavior, and appearance.
- Carry out duties in accordance with FlySafair Standard Operating Procedures, including aircraft-specific procedures and limitations.
- Confirm the safe navigation of the aircraft, maintaining continuous checks on geographical position and terrain clearance.
- Provide advice and assistance to the Captain to ensure safe and efficient flight conduct.
- Maintain a high personal standard of discipline, conduct, and appearance as a representative of the Company.
- Support the Captain in developing and maintaining high standards of professional expertise and morale amongst the crew.
- Ensure compliance with the company's Operations Manual at all times.
- Be fully aware of planned flight routes, briefing sheets, and forecast conditions at destination and alternate aerodromes.
- Work collaboratively with the Captain to review all documents and information for informed decision-making regarding fuel, alternates, and restrictions.
- Perform and monitor checklists, ensuring proper completion.
- Monitor all aspects of the flight, crosschecking flight instrument indications and advising the Captain of any deviations or hazardous situations.
- Conduct R/T communications as required.
- Ensure all post-flight procedures are completed as per the OM and FCOM.
- Submit all relevant documentation and reports.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- SACAA Commercial Pilot License (Essential).
- SACAA ATPL (Preferred).
- Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential).
- Type rated on Boeing (Advantageous).
- Experience on Commercial Jets over 20 Tons (Advantageous).
- Minimum of 1500 total flight hours, including 500 Multi-Turbine hours (Essential), or be Non-Type Rated or Boeing Type rated with these hours.
- Multi Crew experience (Essential).
- No existing medical conditions.
- Willingness to sign applicable training bond(s).
- No criminal record.
- Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
- Own transport and RSA Driver’s License.
- South African Citizenship with proof of identity.
- Valid RSA Passport.
- Willingness to work irregular hours on a roster.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of National Aviation regulations such as SACAA and ICAO.
- Knowledge of Doc 8186 (Essential).
- Knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot licensing content.
