Role Overview

The First Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of flight in a timely manner, monitoring flight paths and systems, and performing all required procedures before, during, and after each flight. The successful candidate will assist the Captain in operational and administrative duties, maintain high standards of crew discipline, and assume command in the event of the Captain’s incapacitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations: Navigate and operate the aircraft, ensure compliance with company policies and SACAA regulations, and maintain the company’s commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Pre-Flight: Review planned routes, briefing sheets, and weather forecasts; complete all pre-flight checks and documentation; and collaborate with the Captain on fuel planning and operational restrictions.
  • In-Flight: Execute and monitor normal, abnormal, and emergency checklists; cross-check flight instruments; maintain continuous situational awareness; and manage R/T communications.
  • Post-Flight: Complete all post-flight procedures per the Operations Manual (OM) and Flight Crew Operations Manual (FCOM), and submit accurate legal and administrative reports, including IQSMS.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SACAA and international aviation laws, and ensure adherence to the company Operations Manual at all times.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Valid SACAA Commercial Pilot License (Essential); SACAA ATPL (Preferred).
  • Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential).
  • Minimum 1500 total hours, including 500 hours of Multi-Turbine time (Essential).
  • Multi-Crew experience (Essential).
  • Boeing Type Rating and experience on Commercial Jets over 20 Tons (Advantageous).
  • In-depth knowledge of National Aviation regulations (SACAA, ICAO) and Doc 8186.
  • South African citizenship with a valid RSA passport, RSA driver’s license, and own transport.
  • Must be free of medical conditions, criminal records, and willing to undergo drug/alcohol testing.
  • Willingness to sign applicable training bonds and work irregular hours on a roster.
