First Officer - FlySafair

FlySafair is seeking a qualified and dedicated First Officer to join their dynamic flight operations team. This permanent, mid-level position offers a market-related salary and is based in JHB.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of flight in a timely manner.
  • Monitor aircraft flight paths and systems.
  • Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments, external service providers, and passengers.
  • Navigate and operate the flight efficiently and safely.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Uphold the company's core competitive edge of excellent customer service.
  • Submit accurate and complete legal administrative documentation.
  • Assume command in the event of the Captain's incapacitation.
  • Stay updated with applicable SACAA and international aviation laws, and the company's Operations Manual.
  • Maintain familiarity with relevant provisions of the company Operations Manual.
  • Assist the Captain with operational and administrative duties as requested.
  • Assist the Captain in maintaining high standards of crew discipline, behavior, and personal appearance.
  • Carry out duties concerning the flight in accordance with FlySafair Standard Operating Procedures, including aircraft-specific procedures, limitations, and performance.
  • Confirm the safe navigation of the aircraft, maintaining continuous checks on geographical position and terrain clearance.
  • Provide advice, information, and assistance to the Captain that contributes to the safe and efficient conduct of the flight.
  • Maintain high personal standards of discipline, conduct, and appearance as a representative of the company.
  • Support the Captain in developing and maintaining high professional expertise and morale amongst the crew.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with the company's Operations Manual.
  • Be fully aware of the planned flight route, briefing sheets, and forecast conditions at destination and alternate aerodromes.
  • Perform all checks outlined in the Operations Manual and complete required documents.
  • Collaborate with the Captain to review documents and information for informed decisions on fuel selection, alternates, and flight restrictions.
  • Perform or monitor the execution of normal, abnormal, and emergency checklists.
  • Monitor all aspects of the flight, ensuring correct procedures and techniques are used, crosschecking flight instrument indications, and advising the Captain of any deviations or hazardous situations.
  • Conduct R/T communications as required.
  • Ensure all post-flight procedures are completed as per the OM and FCOM.
  • Submit all relevant documentation and/or reports, such as IQSMS.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • SACAA Commercial Pilot License (Essential).
  • Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential).
  • Minimum of 1500 flight hours, including 500 hours of Multi-Turbine time (Essential).
  • Multi-Crew experience (Essential).
  • No existing medical conditions.
  • Willingness to sign applicable training bond(s).
  • No criminal record.
  • Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
  • Own transport and RSA Driver’s License.
  • South African Citizenship with proof of identity.
  • Valid RSA Passport.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours on a roster.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of National Aviation regulations (e.g., SACAA, ICAO).
  • Knowledge of Doc 8186 (Essential).
  • Knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilots licensing content.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SACAA ATPL.
  • Type rated on Boeing aircraft.
  • Experience on Commercial Jets over 20 Tons.
