Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is instrumental in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, adhering strictly to aviation regulations and FlightSafety's esteemed Training Principles. This role is crucial in shaping the skills and competence of aviation professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develop and prepare high-quality training materials that effectively support instruction delivery, ensuring alignment with client needs and applicable curricula.
- Evaluate and meticulously measure trainee progress, providing recommendations for qualification or identifying requirements for additional training.
- Maintain accurate and detailed training records for each client, contributing directly to their success in achieving stated training objectives.
- Proactively identify client training challenges and seek necessary assistance prior to the commencement of instruction to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Uphold and maintain Instructor qualifications in strict accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License from an ICAO member state.
- If an ATP certificate is not held, the candidate must meet the requirements stipulated in:
- 14 CFR part 61.153
- 14 CFR part 61.64, without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-In-Command (PIC) type rating is mandatory.
- Preferred: Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121 operations, or military training environments.
- Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Solid understanding of common aviation regulations and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage instructional classes and deliver impactful teaching.
- Proficiency in first-level facilitation techniques.
- Strong first-level customer service skills, focused on client satisfaction.
- A receptive attitude towards coaching and feedback, essential for continuous professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The duties of this position require regular use of hands for fine motor skills, reaching with arms, and clear verbal communication. Employees may be expected to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and engage senses of taste or smell.
The role necessitates the physical capability to perform the following actions:
- Exert pressure and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
- Reach and effectively manipulate various controls within the simulator from the instructor's station.
- Safely enter and exit the simulator device using the provided ramp.
- Navigate efficiently between the instructor station, simulator screen, and podium while delivering classroom instruction.
- Egress from a malfunctioning simulator, potentially in a severely pitched attitude.
- Possess specific visual acuity including close and distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
Work frequently occurs in proximity to moving mechanical parts. Employees may be exposed to elevated or precarious positions, varying outdoor weather conditions, and occasional exposure to wet or humid environments, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, radiation, and vibration.
