Position Summary and Purpose

The Flight Instructor is a pivotal role responsible for the delivery of exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This professional ensures all training adheres strictly to applicable aviation regulatory requirements and established FlightSafety Training principles, maintaining the highest standards of safety and proficiency.

Core Responsibilities and Duties

The successful Flight Instructor is expected to execute the following primary tasks:

  • Conduct comprehensive pilot ground and advanced simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
  • Develop, prepare, and customize essential training materials that support effective delivery, aligning instruction with specific client needs and approved curriculum.
  • Accurately evaluate and measure trainee performance and progression, subsequently providing recommendations for formal qualification or advising necessary supplementary training.
  • Complete detailed and precise training records specific to each client, ensuring thorough documentation supports the trainee's success in achieving requested objectives.
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential client training challenges or issues, seeking immediate assistance from management prior to training execution.
  • Maintain full currency of all Instructor qualifications in strict accordance with national and international regulatory requirements.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Experience and Certifications

  • Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an equivalent Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
  • Applicants who do not currently possess an ATP must meet all requirements specified in 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, specifically excluding any Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-In-Command (PIC) type rating is required.
  • Must be willing and able to participate fully in FlightSafety’s mandated Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol testing program.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior instructional or operational flight experience under FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training protocols is highly desired.
  • A total accumulated flight time of 2,500 hours or more is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety standards and established industry best practices.
  • Solid foundational understanding of common aviation regulations (e.g., Federal Aviation Regulations).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage classroom dynamics and deliver instruction with exceptional efficacy.
  • Proven proficiency in first-level professional facilitation and instructional techniques.
  • Exceptional first-level customer service and professional interpersonal skills.
  • Proven capacity to accept and integrate feedback, demonstrating coachability to support continuous professional development.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The instructor performs duties within both a classroom setting and complex flight simulator devices. The role necessitates specific physical capabilities to ensure safe and effective operation:

  • The employee must possess the physical range of body motion required to reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque mechanisms with both feet.
  • Ability to reach and manipulate numerous controls within the Simulator device from the Instructor’s station.
  • Must be able to safely enter and exit the Simulator device via the provided ramp and move efficiently between the Instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in the classroom.
  • The instructor must be able to maneuver safely to exit a malfunctioned Simulator while the device may be in a severely pitched attitude.
  • Specific visual acuity is required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly requires lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds, and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
  • The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts and occasional exposure to environmental factors inherent to industrial training settings, such as extreme temperatures, fumes, vibration, or risk of electrical shock.
