Position Overview
The Senior Flight Instructor utilizes extensive aviation knowledge and expert facilitation skills to deliver exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This role is responsible for seamlessly meeting client needs while rigorously adhering to aviation regulations and FlightSafety's established training principles. The Senior Flight Instructor plays a critical role in developing highly proficient aviation professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pilot ground and full-flight simulator training for clients pursuing core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develop, prepare, and customize training materials and scenarios to align with client requirements and applicable curriculum standards.
- Dynamically adjust instructional style and approach to deliver tailored training solutions that optimize client learning.
- Rigorously evaluate and measure trainee progress, providing informed recommendations for qualification or additional training as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and detailed training records for each client, supporting their successful achievement of training objectives.
- Provide constructive guidance and expert solutions to address client training challenges, drawing upon deep knowledge and experience.
- Monitor and maintain all personal instructor qualifications in strict accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a positive role model, making identifiable contributions to the organization's success and enhancing the overall customer experience.
- Adhere to and actively promote FlightSafety's high Instructor Performance Standards at all times.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an equivalent ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- Alternatively, candidates must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
- Ability and willingness to participate in FlightSafety’s Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol testing program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training environments.
- A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.
- Earned and maintained FAA and/or EASA Training Center Evaluator (TCE) qualification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of customer service protocols, aviation regulatory frameworks, and company operational processes.
- Strong understanding of aviation safety standards and best practices.
- Proficiency in common aviation regulations.
- Demonstrated intermediate facilitation skills.
- Intermediate customer service proficiency.
- Advanced problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to differentiate instructional style to effectively suit diverse client learning preferences.
- Capacity to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for courseware development projects.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role of Senior Flight Instructor requires specific physical demands and is performed within a dynamic work environment. Essential functions include:
- Operating simulator controls, including applying pressure to rudder/anti-torque pedals with both feet and manipulating numerous controls from the instructor’s chair within the simulator device.
- Entering and exiting simulator devices via provided ramps, and navigating between instructor stations, screens, and podiums in a classroom setting.
- Ability to safely exit a malfunctioned simulator, even if the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Specific visual abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly lifting and moving up to 10 pounds, and frequently lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.
- Working near moving mechanical parts, potentially in high or precarious places, and in varying outside weather conditions.
- Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration. The typical noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
