Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This position is responsible for conducting training activities strictly in accordance with applicable aviation regulations and FlightSafety's established Training principles.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conducting pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Developing and preparing comprehensive training materials that effectively support training delivery, ensuring client needs are met in alignment with the applicable curriculum.
- Evaluating and meticulously measuring trainee progress, offering recommendations for qualification or identifying needs for additional training.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed training records specific to each client, thereby supporting their success in achieving requested objectives.
- Identifying potential client training issues and proactively seeking assistance before execution.
- Ensuring personal Instructor qualifications are consistently maintained in accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements.
Minimum Experience
- Ability and willingness to participate in FlightSafety's DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted ATP certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- If holding neither, candidates must meet the requirements specified in 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64, specifically without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted PIC type rating is required.
- Preferred qualifications include experience gained under FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training environments.
- A total flight time of 2,500 hours is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
- Familiarity with common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage classes and deliver instruction.
- Possession of first-level facilitation skills.
- Exhibition of first-level customer service skills.
- A coachable attitude and the ability to receive feedback to support continuous development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This role requires the ability to perform certain physical tasks and navigate specific environmental conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms; and talks or hears. Occasional requirements may include standing; walking; sitting; climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and tasting or smelling.
Candidates must possess the physical range of body motion necessary to perform the following:
- Reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder or anti-torque controls with both feet.
- Reach and manipulate numerous controls within the Simulator device from the Instructor's chair.
- Enter and exit the Simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Move between the Instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in the classroom.
- Safely exit a malfunctioned Simulator device while it is in a severely pitched attitude.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
While performing duties, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee may occasionally work in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
