Position Purpose

The Flight Instructor plays a critical role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This position ensures all training is conducted in strict accordance with aviation regulations and FlightSafety's rigorous training principles, thereby preparing aviation professionals for success.

Key Responsibilities

The Flight Instructor is responsible for a range of essential duties, including:

  • Conducting comprehensive pilot ground and simulator training for clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment courses.
  • Developing and preparing high-quality training materials that effectively support training delivery, ensuring alignment with client needs and applicable curricula.
  • Evaluating and accurately measuring trainee progress, subsequently providing recommendations for qualification or suggesting additional training as required.
  • Completing precise and thorough training records specific to each client, thereby supporting their success in achieving their requested objectives.
  • Proactively identifying potential client training issues and seeking appropriate assistance before course execution to ensure effective problem resolution.
  • Maintaining all necessary Instructor qualifications in accordance with regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional standards.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Mandatory Rotorcraft Experience: Previous rotorcraft experience is strictly required for this position.
  • Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
  • If an ATP certificate is not held, candidates must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training experience.
  • A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the Flight Instructor is regularly required to use hands for various tasks, reach with hands and arms, and engage in verbal communication. The role may also require standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting or smelling.

Specific physical requirements include:

  • Ability to reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder and/or anti-torque controls with both feet.
  • Ability to reach and manipulate numerous controls within the simulator device from the instructor’s chair.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
  • Ability to move efficiently between the instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in the classroom.
  • Capability to exit a malfunctioned simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally, the employee may work in high, precarious places, in outside weather conditions, and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
