Purpose of Position:

The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, adhering to aviation regulations and FlightSafety's training principles. This individual will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of aviation professionals.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive ground and simulator training for clients participating in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
  • Develop and prepare high-quality training materials to support effective instruction and align with applicable curriculum, ensuring client needs are met.
  • Evaluate and measure trainee progress, providing recommendations for qualification or additional training as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed training records specific to each client, facilitating their success in achieving their training objectives.
  • Proactively identify and address client training issues, seeking appropriate assistance before execution.
  • Maintain all instructor qualifications in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Minimum Experience:

  • Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety's DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
  • Possession of an unrestricted ATP certificate or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
  • If not holding an ATP certificate, must meet the requirements outlined in:
    • 14 CFR part 61.153
    • 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • A minimum of one unrestricted PIC type rating is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training experience.
  • A preferred total flight time of 2,500 hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of aviation safety standards and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of common aviation regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage classes and deliver engaging instruction.
  • Possesses strong first-level facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrates strong first-level customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and receive feedback to support professional growth.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position requires the ability to use hands to manipulate controls, reach with arms, and communicate effectively. The incumbent may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific physical requirements include:

  • Ability to reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque with both feet.
  • Capability to reach and manipulate numerous simulator controls from the instructor’s chair.
  • Ability to enter and exit the simulator using provided ramps.
  • Ability to move between instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in the classroom.
  • Ability to exit from a malfunctioning simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
  • Must possess required vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The role frequently involves working near moving mechanical parts, and the employee may be exposed to high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
