Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, adhering to strict aviation regulations and FlightSafety Training principles. This position is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of training and the successful development of all trainees.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Delivering ground and simulator flight instruction to clients enrolled in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Developing and preparing comprehensive training materials to meet the diverse needs of clients, aligning with established curriculum standards.
- Evaluating and measuring trainee progress, providing feedback, and recommending for qualification or additional training as necessary.
- Maintaining accurate training records for each client, supporting their progress and achievement of desired objectives.
- Proactively identifying and addressing client training issues, seeking assistance when required.
- Maintaining current Instructor qualifications in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be able to participate in FlightSafety's DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- An unrestricted ATP certificate, or an ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
- If no ATP, must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted PIC type rating.
- Preferred: FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training experience.
- Preferred: 2,500 hours of total flight time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of aviation safety standards and practices.
- Strong understanding of common aviation regulations.
- Proven ability to manage classes effectively and deliver engaging instruction.
- First-level facilitation skills.
- First-level customer service skills.
- Ability to be coachable and receive feedback to support professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The Flight Instructor role requires the ability to perform various physical tasks, including:
- Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder controls and/or anti-torque with both feet.
- Reaching and manipulating multiple controls within the Simulator device from the Instructor's chair.
- Entering and exiting the Simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Moving between the Instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in the classroom.
- Exiting from a malfunctioned Simulator while the device is in a severely pitched attitude.
- Lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 25 pounds frequently.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment may expose the Instructor to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
