Purpose of Position
The Pilot Instructor holds a critical role in the execution of all simulator-based training within the Weapon System Trainer (WST). This includes pre-briefings, debriefings, and comprehensive instruction for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation KC-46 Pilots participating in Quarterly Refresher training. The instructor is responsible for guiding and evaluating the progress of both Pilot and Maintenance students enrolled in established aircrew training curricula.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead Quarterly Refresher training utilizing a variety of resources, including classrooms, Computer-based Training (CBT), the WST, and the KC-46 aircraft itself.
- Conduct supplementary ground-based training, as required, for Aircrew Members, focusing on tanker and receiver operating procedures, and encompassing the diagnosis and remediation of student challenges.
- Deliver Initial and Recurring training for Maintenance Personnel enrolled in Engine Run courses.
- Orchestrate briefings, debriefings, and provide individualized counseling to Aircrew Members and Maintenance Personnel, aiming to cultivate and maintain the highest standards of technical proficiency and student expertise.
- Extract and analyze student data, preparing comprehensive performance reviews for individual student sessions.
- Serve as a dedicated KC-46 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing guidance and expertise to students and other relevant personnel as needed.
- Uphold exceptional standards in all aspects of instruction, knowledge dissemination, capabilities, and personal expertise.
- Cultivate and maintain an in-depth understanding of KC-46 aircraft systems and operational procedures.
- Consistently demonstrate a superior grasp and application of instructional principles and theories relevant to aircrew training systems.
- Contribute valuable input for courseware corrections and modifications, as well as updates to training policies and procedures.
- Provide support to other projects and developmental initiatives, as assigned.
- Manage and operate the Student Management System.
- Undertake other duties as assigned, showcasing adaptability and a commitment to the team's success.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree, or a minimum of four years of combined education and relevant experience beyond the requirements outlined below.
Minimum Experience
- Demonstrated experience as a qualified Tanker Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) Pilot Flight Instructor or a Tanker AAR Aircrew Training System (ATS) Pilot Instructor. This experience must have been gained within 5 years of the date of assignment to the KC-46 ATS.
- A minimum of 200 logged flying hours in U.S. Air Force or Allied Nation aircraft, or equivalent flight simulator experience, with at least 50% of those hours acquired in actual aircraft.
- Receiver AAR Instructor experience is highly desirable.
- A type rating in B-767 is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Proven ability to morally and ethically motivate others towards the successful achievement of program objectives.
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Capacity to effectively interact with students, providing immediate remediation or determining alternative courses of action when necessary.
- Basic knowledge of personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to successfully complete an annual internal standardization evaluation.
- Current possession of, or the ability to obtain, a SECRET clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, utilize hands and fingers for fine motor skills, reach with hands and arms, and engage in clear verbal communication. The individual must be capable of occasionally lifting and moving up to 20 pounds. Good close and distance vision is essential, along with the ability to adjust focus. The typical work environment involves a moderate noise level.
