Position Summary
Eastern Airlines is seeking professional aviators for the position of Captain. This role offers a minimum guarantee of 72 hours per month and reports directly to the Chief Pilot. The Captain holds command and final authority over the flight crew, passengers, cargo, and the safe conduct of the flight. The successful candidate must embody the company’s values while collaborating effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Retains final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft and ensures strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Directs the activities of the First Officer to ensure all flight crewmembers fully understand their assigned duties.
- Verifies that the assigned aircraft is airworthy and that all required aircraft and pilot manuals (hardcopy or EFB) are updated and on board.
- Makes critical decisions regarding the initiation, delay, or cancellation of flights based on prevailing operating conditions.
- Ensures the proper amount and grade of fuel is loaded and that the aircraft weight and balance manifest is correctly completed and distributed.
- Conducts comprehensive flight plan reviews, evaluating altitude, terrain, weather, range, and airport facilities.
- Maintains frequent communication with the Systems Operations Center (SOC) and provides immediate notification of any flight plan deviations.
- Ensures the performance of VOR checks and other required aircraft equipment inspections.
- Oversees passenger briefings and ensures all cargo and passenger comfort provisions are properly secured.
- Manages flight logs, reports mechanical irregularities, and coordinates maintenance status with ground personnel.
- Determines that the flight crew is adequately rested and adheres to professional dress standards.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding FAA Regulations, Company Manuals, OpSpecs, and aircraft flight manuals.
- Logs flight and duty time into the company tracking system at the conclusion of each flight day.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 7,000 hours total flying time (only time in the operating seat of turboprop or turbojet aircraft is applicable).
- Minimum of 2,000 hours PIC time on multi-crew, multi-engine, commercial aircraft.
- Previous wide-body aircraft PIC experience, with preference given to those with B767 or B777 ratings.
- Valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.
- Valid FAA First-Class Medical certificate.
- Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- At least 1,000 hours of flight time under Part 121 operations.
- Must meet all FAA 121.436 requirements.
- Fluency in English with proficiency consistent with at least ICAO Level 4 Endorsement.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Valid U.S. Passport allowing for worldwide travel (must not expire within six months).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

- Ability to multitask and maintain performance under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to bid work schedules by seniority, including days, swings, midnight shifts, and holidays.
- Requirement to travel as needed for flight operations.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol test and a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).
