Position Summary: B767 Captain
Eastern Airlines is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Captain to operate the Boeing 767 wide-body aircraft. This critical, full-time position reports directly to the Chief Pilot and currently provides a guaranteed minimum of seventy-two (72) flight hours per month.
The successful Captain must demonstrate expert knowledge and application of all relevant Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and possess superior communication skills necessary for effective teamwork in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Candidates must exemplify the values and culture of Eastern Airlines while interacting with team members and customers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The B767 Captain assumes absolute command and retains final authority for the aircraft, flight crew, passengers, cargo, and the overall safe conduct of the flight operation in compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Retain final authority for the safe, airworthy, and compliant operation of the aircraft during all phases of flight.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of the First Officer and all crew members, ensuring full understanding of assigned duties.
- Actively utilize Crew Resource Management (CRM), encouraging the First Officer to voice any concerns regarding safety decisions until satisfied the safety of the flight is no longer in question.
- Ensure the assigned aircraft is airworthy, clean, properly provisioned, and that all required documents, including updated Company Manuals, OpSpecs, and the Aircraft Flight Manuals (hardcopy or EFB), are onboard.
- Conduct thorough flight planning, considering factors such as altitude, terrain, weather, range, fuel requirements, weight and balance, airport facilities, and navigational aids.
- Make decisions as necessary to start, delay, initiate cancellation of the flight, or deviate from a planned destination when operating conditions dictate.
- Ensure the correct amount and grade of fuel are loaded onto the aircraft.
- Verify the aircraft weight and balance form/manifest is properly completed, signed, and distributed.
- Maintain frequent radio or telephone contact with the System Operations Control (SOC) throughout the flight to ensure prompt conveyance of operational messages.
- Immediately notify the SOC of any deviation from the flight plan, providing a detailed description, including date, time, location, and reason(s) for the deviation.
- Ensure all crew and passengers receive the appropriate safety briefings for each phase of the flight.
- Promptly report all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents to the Chief Pilot or Director of Operations.
- Maintain a current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate and notify the appropriate management if a medical condition impairs flight duty performance.
- Ensure all required VOR checks and aircraft equipment checks are performed correctly.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Prospective B767 Captain candidates must meet the following essential criteria:
- Minimum of 7,000 hours of total flight time (only time in the operating seat of a turboprop and/or turbojet aircraft may be counted).
- Minimum of 2,000 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) time on multi-crew, multi-engine commercial aircraft.
- Minimum of 1,000 hours of flight time conducted under Part 121 operations.
- Previous wide-body aircraft PIC time is required, with preference given to experience on the Boeing 767 (B767) or Boeing 777 (B777) platforms.
- Current and valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.
- Current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate.
- Possession of a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
- Demonstrated English proficiency consistent with at least ICAO Level 4 endorsement.
- Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License and a current passport allowing worldwide travel.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to successfully pass comprehensive drug and alcohol background checks, pre-employment DOT drug tests, and a criminal history records check (CHRC).
- Must be able to successfully multitask and perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to accept flight schedules, including days, swings, midnight shifts, and holidays, based on seniority bidding.
Candidates being considered for a Direct Entry Captain position must satisfy all requirements stipulated under FAR 121.436.
