Position Summary

Eastern Airlines seeks a highly experienced and professional aviation leader to serve as a Captain (B767). The Captain assumes ultimate command responsibility for the aircraft, flight crew, passengers, and cargo, ensuring the safe and efficient conduct of all flights under 14 CFR Part 121. This role reports directly to the Chief Pilot and includes a minimum guarantee of seventy-two (72) hours per month.

The successful candidate must possess a comprehensive working knowledge of all relevant Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and demonstrate exceptional decision-making capabilities. Preference will be given to individuals currently type-rated on the Boeing B-767/757 or B-777 aircraft. The Captain must consistently exhibit the values and culture of Eastern Airlines while managing team dynamics and customer interactions within a fast-paced environment.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The Captain holds final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining command and responsibility for all individuals and assets associated with the flight operation.
  • Directing the First Officer’s activities, ensuring all flight crewmembers fully understand their assigned duties.
  • Adhering strictly to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and actively promoting Crew Resource Management (CRM), encouraging all crew members to voice concerns regarding safety matters.
  • Retaining a high level of expertise regarding FAA Regulations, Company Manuals, OpSpecs, and aircraft flight manuals.
  • Verifying the aircraft’s airworthiness, ensuring all required documents, proper fuel grade and quantity, and necessary passenger comforts are aboard.
  • Executing critical operational decisions, including the start, delay, cancellation, or deviation from a planned destination when required by operating conditions.
  • Conducting a thorough review of the flight plan, considering factors such as altitude, terrain, weather, performance, and navigational aids.
  • Ensuring that weather and aircraft performance conditions meet the requirements appropriate to the CFR under which the flight is being conducted.
  • Confirming that the weight and balance form/manifest is properly completed, signed, and distributed.
  • Maintaining radio or telephone contact with the System Operations Control (SOC) throughout the flight, providing immediate notification and detailed descriptions of any deviations from the flight plan.
  • Promptly reporting all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents to the Chief Pilot or Director of Operations.
  • Ensuring all crewmembers are adequately rested, properly dressed, and capable of performing their duties.
  • Overseeing the proper preparation of flight logs, reporting of mechanical irregularities, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidates applying for the B767 Captain position must meet the following essential criteria:

  • A minimum of 7,000 hours total flying time. Only time acquired in the operating seat of a turboprop and/or turbojet aircraft will be counted.
  • A minimum of 2,000 hours Pilot In Command (PIC) time on multi-crew, multi-engine, commercial aircraft.
  • Previous experience must include significant wide-body aircraft PIC time, with preference given to time on the B767 or B777.
  • Possession of a valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid FAA First-Class Medical Certificate.
  • Possession of a Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
  • Fluency in English (consistent with at least ICAO Level 4 endorsement).
  • Minimum of 1,000 hours of flight time conducted under Part 121 operations.
  • If applying for a Direct Entry Captain position, the candidate must satisfy all requirements outlined in FAR 121.436.

General Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the United States (US Passport holder or Green Card holder).
  • Ability to multitask and perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic, high-stakes environment.
  • Willingness to travel and work scheduled shifts (days, swings, or midnight, including holidays) based on seniority bidding.
  • Possession of a valid US Driver’s License and a current passport enabling worldwide travel.
  • Ability to successfully pass drug and alcohol background checks, a pre-employment DOT drug test, and a criminal history records check (CHRC).
