Requirements for First Officer Position

Prospective First Officers applying to be based in Hong Kong must rigorously satisfy the following essential criteria:

  • Possession of an ICAO Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) or a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with a Multi Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR), along with valid ATPL examination credits obtained without exemption or conversion.
  • A current and valid Class 1 Medical Certificate.
  • Demonstrated ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or above.
  • A minimum total flying time of 1,500 hours, which must include:
    • At least 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command (P1), with a maximum of 250 hours being P1 Under Supervision (P1 U/S).

    Applicants are advised to consult the HKCAD for detailed and specific requirements pertaining to ATPL(A) qualifications.

Selection Process

The rigorous selection process for this safety-sensitive role encompasses several critical stages: a comprehensive pre-employment medical examination, which includes the HKCAD Class 1 medical assessment, and a thorough background check covering criminal records. Additionally, all successful candidates will be required to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test, conducted in strict accordance with the HKCAD Guidance for screening of Psychoactive Substances - Annex B, CAD373.
