The Role: 707 Instructor Pilot
CAE is actively seeking a highly qualified and experienced 707 Pilot Instructor to join its dedicated aviation training team. This pivotal position will commence as a part-time engagement with significant potential to transition into a full-time role, contingent upon ongoing contract expansion and operational requirements. The Instructor serves as a critical Subject Matter Expert (SME), ensuring the highest standards of aircrew proficiency.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Instructor Pilot provides expert, comprehensive training on 707 aircraft variants (including but not limited to E-3, KC-135, E-6, and RC-135) aircraft systems and operational procedures. Instruction is delivered across diverse training environments, encompassing aircraft, classroom, flight simulator, and practical settings. Key duties involve:
- Serving as a Subject Matter Expert in the development, refinement, and expert review of new and existing training curricula, study outlines, and orientation materials utilized during procedures and flight simulator training.
- Conducting instructional sessions, detailed briefings, follow-ups, and proficiency checks utilizing flight simulators, strictly adhering to approved syllabi, company policies, and established procedures.
- Delivering specialized training programs, including Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Advanced Instrument Concepts.
- Evaluating trainee progress accurately and recommending appropriate qualification status or necessary remedial and additional training.
- Reviewing flight simulator design and overall training effectiveness to maximize student proficiency and mission readiness.
- Leveraging prior aircraft operating experience to establish credibility and effectively engage students, which is fundamental to specialized aviation instruction.
- Coordinating utilization schedules for training flight crews and necessary engineering support activities.
- Providing comprehensive ground training for fellow crew members, coupled with diagnosis and remediation strategies for identified student challenges.
- Ensuring the safety of all attendees within the simulator environment and maintaining comfort with simulator motion.
- Proactively identifying and proposing improvements to optimize established training policies and procedural methodologies.
- Managing all associated administrative duties, including scheduling, detailed record keeping, student progress monitoring, counseling, quality assurance (QA), safety protocols, security procedures, and the rigorous maintenance of training programs and equipment.
- Maintaining a high level of proficiency in the operation of essential 707 Aircrew Training Devices.
- Capable of conducting prolonged academic instruction sessions (up to six hours daily) in both simulator and classroom settings.
Required Professional Qualifications and Experience
Prospective candidates must demonstrate a proven background in military aviation and possess the requisite technical and instructional competencies:
- A Bachelor’s Degree obtained from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- A minimum of eight years of total professional flying experience, encompassing at least five years of specialized military operational experience.
- A successful candidate must possess 1,500 or more flying hours in the specified type aircraft (707 variants).
- Demonstrated experience as an academic platform or training device (Simulator) instructor.
- Completion of a formal academic instructor course is mandatory.
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex technical documents, procedural manuals, and governmental regulations.
- Exceptional facilitation, data analysis, language, mathematical, and complex reasoning skills are essential, including the ability to calculate figures, amounts, and percentages.
- Capability to perform duties effectively with minimal supervision and adjust readily to operational needs, including a willingness to work overtime, varying shifts, and schedules across any day of the week.
- Must be eligible to participate in periodic aircraft familiarization flights.
Preferred Attributes
- Demonstrated experience with Qualitative Test Guides (QTG’s) and the FAA Simulator Certification and Qualification processes and procedures.
Security Requirements
The incumbent must comply with all company security and data protection/usage policies and procedures. Personnel are personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources. Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role. The incumbent must be eligible for a DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The work environment primarily involves a standard office setting but requires the capacity to operate within training device areas, which may involve potential exposure to electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, airborne particles, and significant noise levels. The role necessitates the ability to perform physical tasks, including walking, climbing stairs and ladders into simulators or aircraft cockpits, stooping, bending, and crawling. It requires the sensory ability to detect odors or noises indicating potential equipment issues.
