Position Summary

CAE is actively seeking highly qualified and experienced Rotary Wing Instructor Pilots to deliver exceptional flight training for new student pilots enrolled in the United States Air Force Air Education and Training Command's Introductory Flight Training – Rotary (IFT-R) program. This critical role is based at the CAE Dothan Training Center and is instrumental in preparing the next generation of military aviators.

Key Responsibilities

The Rotary Wing Instructor Pilot will be responsible for conducting comprehensive contact flight training and instrument familiarization for the USAF IFT-R program. Working in close coordination with the CAE IFT-R Chief Pilot, Director of Quality Assurance, Standardization, and the USAF, the instructor pilot will participate in a robust standardization and training program. Essential duties include:

  • Delivering contact flight training and instrument familiarization in strict adherence to program requirements.
  • Ensuring comprehensive compliance with all applicable standards, including USAF and FAA (FAR) regulations.
  • Actively participating in the Quality Management System, adhering to established quality procedures, and contributing to safety programs.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of all changes and modifications to external aviation standards and regulations.
  • Contributing to the identification and implementation of strategic initiatives to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Managing and coordinating the standardization, evaluation, and examiner plan, which encompasses scheduling internal and external audits, maintaining a meticulous tracking database, following up on identified deficiencies, and providing comprehensive reporting.
  • Collaborating effectively with program, customer, and CAE USA staff to proactively identify and resolve quality assurance issues, thereby ensuring all quality requirements are met.
  • Interfacing with various departments and management to identify and execute process improvement opportunities.
  • Conducting all business activities in strict adherence to corporate policies, procedures, and relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Presenting insightful metrics to evaluate process performance levels and the impact of process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Certifications: FAA-certified Commercial Pilot, Helicopter, with an Instrument Helicopter rating. Current FAA Certificated Flight Instructor Helicopter with an Instrument Helicopter Instructor rating.
  • Flight Time: A minimum of 1,000 hours total flight time (creditable as pilot-in-command or second in command per FAR 61.51, or as Pilot in Command (PC) or Pilot (PI) per AR 95-1). This must include 500 hours of turbine helicopter time, 100 hours of hooded instrument, flight simulator instrument, or weather pilot time, and 75 hours of night flying time.
  • Instructional Experience: At least 500 hours of Flight Instructor time, with experience as a Helicopter Instructor Pilot in primary flight training within a military initial flight training course or FAA 14 CFR Part 61 and/or Part 141 environments. Must have instructed students in instrument flight training.
  • Medical: Must possess and maintain a current FAA Class 2 medical certificate.
  • Availability: Ability to work overtime, various shifts, and days of the week as required.
  • Attributes: Highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Citizenship & Security: Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role. The incumbent must be eligible for a DoD Personal Security Clearance and comply with all company security and data protection policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An Associate of Science degree.
  • Graduate of a US Department of Defense formal Rotary Wing Instructor Pilot training program.
  • Prior experience as a US Air Force Helicopter Instructor Pilot.
  • Greater than 2,500 hours total flight time, including 1,000 hours helicopter instructor time (any weight, category) and 1,500 hours helicopter turbine time.

Physical Requirements

The role necessitates the ability to lift at least 40 pounds overhead, walk and/or climb stairs and ladders into simulators or aircraft cockpits, and stoop, bend, or crawl on top of or under equipment as needed. The employee must also be able to detect odors or hear specific noises, bangs, or other sounds to identify potential problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and their surrounding environment.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily within a professional classroom and office environment. It will also require exposure to extreme summer and winter temperatures during outdoor activities or specific training scenarios. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing systems.
