AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot
Role Overview:
A highly proficient Instructor Pilot is sought to deliver advanced flight instruction on the AH-64D/E platform to student pilots, adhering strictly to the Army Aircrew Training Manual. This role necessitates prior Instructor Pilot experience at the company level or above. Instruction encompasses day and night operations, with shift schedules potentially commencing as early as 5:00 AM and concluding after midnight. The training program, located at Fort Rucker, Alabama, serves both U.S. Army and international students. The curriculum includes advanced flight maneuvers, advanced navigation, terrain flight techniques, tactical procedures, and instrument training. Flight instruction will be provided across contact, instrument, weapons gunnery, and night systems disciplines, under day, night, and night vision goggle modes of operation.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive instruction and performance assessments to students in classroom, flight, and simulator environments.
- Conduct thorough pre-flight briefings, in-flight guidance, and post-flight After Action Reviews.
- Administer end-of-stage check rides to evaluate student progress.
- Maintain meticulous records and submit student performance evaluations.
Qualifications and Educational Background:
- High School Diploma is mandatory; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
- Must be a graduate of the U.S. Army AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot and Methods of Instruction course.
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience as an aviator, with the most recent AH-64D/E flight within the past twelve (12) months. (Currency or refresher training can be provided as necessary).
- Minimum of 1000 flight hours as pilot in the AH-64D/E aircraft.
- Minimum of 250 flight hours as an Instructor Pilot in the AH-64D/E aircraft.
- Demonstrated computer literacy, including word processing, database input, accessing electronic publications and online resources, and utilizing briefing/debriefing software and electronic forms.
- Ability to travel periodically to support the training program.
- Must possess a working knowledge of military flight training base operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are imperative.
- Must be available to work overtime as needed.
- Must be flexible and able to work any shift or day of the week as required by training schedules.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- Must hold and maintain a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) second-class Medical Certificate throughout the contract term or, if a member of the National Guard or Reserves, an Army Class 2 Flight Duty Medical Exam (FDME).
Language Skills:
Must demonstrate the ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret intricate aviation-related documents and diagrams.
Mathematical Skills:
Proficiency in calculating figures, amounts, and percentages, as well as the ability to interpret graphs is essential.
Reasoning Ability:
The ideal candidate will be capable of defining problems, collecting and analyzing data, establishing facts, and drawing informed conclusions. The ability to interpret student requirements and attitudes, based on verbal, non-verbal, and written communication, is crucial.
Security Responsibilities:
- Must adhere to all company security and data protection/usage policies. The employee is directly accountable for proper handling and marking of all information and materials. The position requires maintaining confidentiality of all information, and access may not be afforded to other employees without proper authorization. All proprietary information and government data will be stored and accessed on company-provided resources.
- Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment:
- The work environment is primarily an office setting, with communication conducted through computers, telephone, and fax.
- The role will include work in areas that may present risk of electrical shock, and proximity to mechanical parts driven by high-pressure hydraulics.
- The position will expose the candidate to extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises associated with a typical aviation training facility, including flight line operations.
Physical Demands:
The position demands physical capabilities that include travel, climbing stairs and ladders into cockpits, and stooping, bending, and crawling on top of or under training devices. The ability to detect odors or hear noises to identify any potential issues, and distinguish colors is mandatory.
