About the role

We are looking for a Chief Instructor to work at our Medium Support Helicopter Aircrew Training Facility (MSHATF) at RAF Benson, where we deliver the total spectrum of synthetic aircrew training. The training facility is equipped with full-mission simulators for the CH-47 Chinook, the AW101 Merlin and the Puma and covers the full spectrum of training, from aircraft conversion to mission rehearsal, pre-deployment and operational training. This role is an excellent opportunity for a true people leader to join us to provide dynamic leadership to the team of instructors. This role is responsible for directing and leading the delivery of training to the required quality and standards ensuring the accomplishment of CAE ‘s goals and objectives.

This role is instrumental in driving the productivity and growth of the team, as well as delivering quality training and upholding the customer experience. The role requires strong leadership skills and good business acumen. You will be collaborating with senior stakeholders, motivating and utilising the teams in place and working in partnership with the other functions, whilst establishing and maintaining a customer-oriented business relationship with CAE’s various customers.

Key Responsibilities

+ Oversee the planning of the instructor teams’ activities to ensure the overall goals and objectives are achieved while providing customers with a quality training experience

+ Seek new methods to improve the operation and quality of the training offering

+ Plan, schedule, direct and reviews the work of the instructor team towards agreed goals and objectives, ensuring targets are met

+ Coach and mentor the Senior Instructors in place to achieve results with support from HR Business Partner utilising policies and procedures, where necessary

+ Ensure that the annual assessments of instructor performance by internal QA, RAF CFS agents or SH STANEVAL are co-ordinated and action the feedback provided

+ Provide specialist instructor knowledge for upgrade projects to the simulators, Tactical Control Centre and Groundschool

+ Manage the team performance through the Talent Compass cycle, setting and agree long-term and short-term objectives with direct reports and actively monitoring performance

+ Oversee the full operational remit of the team to drive and improve efficiency

+ Accountable for defining the requirements ensuring continuous development and revision of the Operations and Training manual, Standard Operating Procedures, and any associated syllabi ensuring all is in accordance with DSAT, RAF flying manuals, JHC FOB and national AIPS

​About you

+ An experienced ex- military Central Flying School (CFS) accredited A2 Qualified Helicopter Instructor (QHI), with Support Helicopter (SH) type experience

+ Wide range of tactical experience on SH

+ Good leadership and management experience

+ Excellent communication skills

+ Proficient with Microsoft office skills
