The Role
For BA Cityflyer Captains, customer service is paramount. The objective is to deliver an exceptional flight experience, bringing business and leisure customers directly into the heart of London.
Operational Environment
As the principal airline operating from London City Airport, BA Cityflyer connects London to a variety of destinations across Europe and the UK. Captains are expected to work collaboratively within a close-knit team to support a dynamic seven-day-a-week operation. The roster includes a diverse mix of business, charter, and leisure flights, comprising day trips, night stops, and tours.
Operating the Embraer 190 primarily from London City Airport means serving a discerning, high-value customer base within one of the world’s most demanding operating environments. BA Cityflyer pilots are therefore required to uphold the highest professional standards consistently.

Minimum Application Criteria
Candidates must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered:
- Current operation as a Captain is desirable.
- Possession of a current UK CAA Part-FCL ATPL (A) licence or the ability to convert to a UK licence via the CAA EASA transfer process Route 5 or 6.
- Hold a current type rating with a minimum of 4000 total flight hours, including 1500 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) of a commercial jet/turbo prop multi-crew aircraft. PICUS hours are excluded from the 1500 hours requirement.
- Hold a current UK issued ATPL (A).
- Achieved ICAO English language proficiency level 6.
- Possess a valid Multi-Engine Instrument Rating.
- Hold a valid Class 1 Medical Certificate, which must remain valid for at least 6 months from the anticipated date of joining.
- An Embraer E-Jet type rating is desirable but not essential.
Application Notes
Applicants are required to upload a copy of their licence and the last 3 pages of their logbook to the supporting files section when submitting their application. Verification of hours and ratings will be conducted during the screening and assessment stages.
Important Reapplication Information
- Candidates who are unsuccessful at the initial screening, video interview, capacity testing, or assessment centre stages are eligible to reapply for the pilot recruitment campaign after a period of 6 months from the date of their most recent assessment. This revised timeframe aligns with the updated assessment process.
- Candidates who are unsuccessful at the simulator (SIM) stage must wait 12 months before reapplying for the pilot recruitment campaign.
- Candidates may apply to only one airline within the British Airways family (British Airways, Euroflyer, or Cityflyer) at any one time. If unsuccessful in a campaign with one airline, the candidate must wait until the specified re-apply period has elapsed before submitting an application to any other airline within the British Airways family.
