The Opportunity

As the Chief Remote Pilot Assistant you will be responsible for providing support to the Chief Remote Pilot and in the development of RPA flight authorisation requests and development of the Flight Operations Safety Management System.

Responsibilities will include:

 Chief Remote Pilot Support

  • Support the Chief Remote Pilot with the development and administration of the Flight Operations Safety Management System.
  • Maintain Flight Operations Manuals compliant with National Aviation Authority standards including where applicable, Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) regulations.
  • Conduct risk analysis to support safety of RPAS operations.
  • Develop as a technical SME of multiple complex RPAS.
  • Develop and maintain RPAS technical publications.
  • Support RPAS incident investigation analysis and technical report writing.

RPAS Flight Operations and Flight & Maintenance Operations Training Support

  • Support Flight Operations deployment and readiness activities such as equipment administration, aviation stakeholder engagement, emergency response planning, land access, flight records administration and post deployment process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of RPAS type training curriculum, courseware and equipment.

To be successful in the role you will require the following experience/qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Safety or Airspace Management field or equivalent operational experience.
  • One or more years experience in an aviation business.
  • Broad technical and IT knowledge (Australian airspace structure, control and navigations systems, radio frequency datalinks, aviation automation and human machine systems) and experience.
  • Highly developed technical writing ability and skill with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with aviation operations and Safety Management Systems (particularly safety risk analysis and management) processes.
  • Knowledge of CASA, NZ CAA, UK CAA or DASA regulations and standards concerning RPA operations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively to a technical and non-technical audience.

Desirable

  • Crewed pilot’s licence (RPL, PPL, CPL or military equivalent) or Air Traffic Control licence and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in JARUS SORA process as applied to complex RPAS CONOPs.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
