Position Summary

The Aircraft Mechanic Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging and comprehensive instruction in assigned aviation maintenance courses, ensuring students grasp both theoretical concepts and practical applications. Beyond teaching, the instructor manages essential administrative tasks, including maintaining records, assessing student performance, and collaborating with faculty to enhance the curriculum. This pivotal role involves fostering a supportive learning environment that promotes student success and effectively prepares them for rewarding careers in the aviation industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging and effective instruction in aircraft maintenance principles, aligning curriculum development with current industry standards.
  • Cultivate a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and offers individualized support to enhance learning and student success.
  • Oversee critical administrative responsibilities, including maintaining accurate academic and attendance records and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and institutional standards.
  • Teach classes on a scheduled basis, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment that promotes student engagement and optimizes learning in aircraft maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator, Campus Director of Education, and Campus Executive Director to develop, refine, and schedule curriculum and prepare course materials, ensuring alignment with industry standards and educational goals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom and laboratory environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly maintained and readily available for student use.
  • Establish and maintain accurate academic and attendance records for each student, submitting attendance, grades, evaluations, and other necessary documentation promptly as required by institutional procedures.
  • Proactively notify the Supervisor of any current or potential issues requiring immediate attention and implement proven retention techniques to support student success.
  • Complete assigned performance-based teacher education modules, participate in classroom observations and instructor evaluations, and respond constructively to student feedback to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Attend and/or lead in-service training sessions, faculty meetings, and other mandatory gatherings to ensure ongoing professional development and collaborative interaction with peers.
  • Assist in managing the inventory of department equipment and supplies, submitting replenishment requests to the Supervisor or appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Monitor student attendance closely, alerting the Supervisor to any significant absences (e.g., first, third, and fifth occurrences) to proactively address potential retention challenges.
  • Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the Supervisor, contributing to the overall success and continuous improvement of the aircraft maintenance training program.

Required Qualifications

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate
  • Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance (special consideration may be given for more diverse experience)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong command of both theoretical and practical aspects of aircraft maintenance, possessing contemporary knowledge and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven, and compliance-oriented educational setting.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized, with the capability to multitask effectively and perform well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity, a strong work ethic, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a strong emphasis on customer service in an educational context.
  • Highly motivated and goal-oriented, with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, exhibiting exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Willingness to work outside of regular shifts, including evenings and weekends, as necessary or requested by the Supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with CampusNexus

Work Schedule - Part Time Options

Applicants will be considered for one of the following schedules:

  • Option 1: Monday - Thursday 7:15 am - 2:15 pm
  • Option 2: Monday - Thursday: 4:45 pm – 11:45 pm
  • Option 3: Friday – Sunday: 7:45 am – 4:15 pm

Compensation

The compensation for this position ranges from $40.00 to $42.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
