Position Summary
The Aircraft Mechanic Instructor is primarily responsible for delivering engaging and comprehensive instruction in assigned aircraft maintenance courses. This includes ensuring that students grasp both theoretical concepts and practical applications with precision. Beyond teaching, the instructor manages essential administrative tasks, such as maintaining meticulous records, thoroughly assessing student performance, and actively collaborating with faculty to continuously enhance the curriculum. This role is pivotal in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success and diligently prepares them for successful careers within the aviation industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivers engaging and effective instruction in aircraft maintenance principles, while actively contributing to curriculum development that aligns seamlessly with current industry standards.
- Cultivates a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that actively encourages student participation and provides individualized support to optimize student success.
- Manages critical administrative duties, including the meticulous maintenance of accurate academic and attendance records, and ensures strict compliance with industry regulations and institutional procedures.
- Collaborates proactively with the Program Coordinator, Campus Director of Education, and Campus Executive Director to refine curriculum, prepare comprehensive course materials, and efficiently schedule classes.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe classroom and laboratory environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly serviced and readily available for student use.
- Proactively identifies and reports any current or potential issues requiring immediate attention to the Supervisor, and implements proven retention techniques to support student progress.
- Completes assigned performance-based teacher education modules, actively participates in classroom observations and instructor evaluations, and thoughtfully responds to student feedback to continuously enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Attends and/or leads in-service training sessions, faculty meetings, and other mandatory gatherings, ensuring ongoing professional development and fostering strong collaboration with peers.
- Assists in managing the inventory of department equipment and supplies, submitting timely replenishment requests to the Supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Monitors student attendance diligently, alerting the Supervisor to any absences, particularly at the first, third, and fifth occurrences, to proactively address potential retention challenges.
- Undertakes other tasks and projects as assigned by the Supervisor, contributing to the overall success and continuous improvement of the aircraft maintenance training program.
Required Qualifications
- Possesses a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate.
- Holds a minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance. Special consideration may be given for more diverse or extensive experience.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Demonstrates a strong command of both theoretical and practical aspects of aircraft maintenance, coupled with contemporary knowledge and a steadfast commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Capable of thriving in a fast-paced, performance-driven, and compliance-oriented educational setting.
- Exhibits exceptional detail-orientation, analytical prowess, and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask effectively and perform competently under pressure.
- Maintains a high level of integrity, a strong work ethic, and unwavering professionalism in all interactions.
- Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills, with a strong emphasis on providing excellent customer service within an educational context.
- Is highly motivated, goal-oriented, and equipped with robust problem-solving abilities.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Willingness to work outside of regular shifts, including evenings and weekends, as necessary or requested by the Supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
- An Associate’s degree in a related field is highly preferred.
- Prior experience with CampusNexus is an advantage.

AIM offers flexible scheduling options to accommodate various preferences:
- Option 1: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM EST
- Option 2 (Evening Shift): Monday - Thursday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM EST & Fridays, 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST
- Option 3 (Weekend Shift): Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST

Compensation and Benefits
The Aviation Institute of Maintenance offers a competitive compensation package for the Aircraft Mechanic Instructor position, ranging from $36 - $41 per hour, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors. Additionally, a $2,500 sign-on bonus is provided.
