Job Overview
The Instructional Design Specialist is instrumental in creating, refining, and enhancing instructional content for the Flight Operations department, specifically focusing on pilot training. This role necessitates collaboration with Training Managers, Instructors, Evaluators, and Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure an optimal training experience for all Flight Operations personnel, particularly training center students and attendees. A key responsibility includes ensuring adherence to all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory mandates pertinent to pilot training.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop instructor guides, syllabi, and learning objectives.
- Create and maintain learning resources, including facilitator/participant guides and job aids.
- Develop engaging training materials for various delivery methods, such as instructor-led sessions, computer-based training modules, and storyboards.
- Interpret Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Company policies, and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) to inform instructional design within the AQP framework.
- Analyze training program effectiveness and efficiency using diverse data sources, summarizing findings in formal reports.
- Establish and monitor qualitative and quantitative Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess training program success.
- Maintain official documentation for government and corporate programs, including an electronic Program Audit Data Base (PADB) and a training recording/certification system.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in adult learning theory, instructional methods, and compliance requirements, producing analysis reports, design documents, curriculum outlines, instructor courseware, and regulatory documentation.
- Apply expert knowledge of complex technical training programs to collaborate with stakeholders across all leadership levels, ensuring pilot training programs are effective, efficient, compliant, and aligned with corporate safety and operational objectives, FARs, and the CBA.
- Contribute to the development of new training concepts, techniques, and standards using Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies.
- Support internal and external audits by understanding the Pilot Audit Data Base (PADB) and training recording/certification systems to identify skill gaps and training needs.
- Develop and transform SME content into effective learning objects, utilizing all phases of the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate).
- Ensure timely transmission of data and content as per the implementation plan.
- Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
- Maintain working knowledge of CRM/TEM, FAA regulations, Advisory Circulars, ICAO, and other international standards.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) or other senior Training Staff members.
Qualifications
- A four (4) year degree in Education, Instructional Design, Aviation, or equivalent work experience is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of training-related work experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate360, and Microsoft Office360 is required.
- Demonstrated practical experience utilizing Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies.
- Practical experience working with technical training subjects and compliance training is a plus.
- Certifications from Instructional Design organizations or associations are preferred, such as:
- Association of Talent Development (ATD) Certified Professional in Learning Development (CPLP)/Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD)
- International Society of Performance Improvement (ISPI) Certified Performance Technologist (CPT)
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP)
- American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA), Certified Quality Process Analyst (CQPA)
- AQP design and development experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of FARs and Advisory Circulars is a plus.
Special Demands
- Minimum 10% travel is required.

Salary Range
$70,500 - $83,000
Financial offers will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, and skillset.
