American Express Aviation is a world-wide, Part 91 corporate flight department supporting executive movement through business jet and helicopter transport.

Helicopter Captain Role

The Helicopter Captain, as pilot in command (PIC), is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of assigned flight duties. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate leadership behaviors and abilities to coordinate crew functions and complete the mission in accordance with all applicable local, federal, and international regulations, as well as company policies and standard operating procedures.

The primary role of the Helicopter Captain is to deliver safe and professional, air transportation to the clients of the American Express Aviation business unit. The Captain will collaborate with all crew members, maintenance technicians, dispatch personnel, and aviation leadership to execute on the assigned mission.

This position will be based in Newburgh, New York at Stewart International Airport.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Helicopter Captain with American Express Aviation

  • Ensures that the aircraft is airworthy, registered and that the required documentation is onboard the aircraft.
  • Checks weather and all applicable NOTAMs, where available, and determines fuel requirements.
  • Determines the aircraft weight and balance.
  • Ensures that all flight planning requirements have been met.
  • Ensures that aircraft crewmembers have valid license and medical certificates.
  • Completes an aircraft preflight inspection before each departure.
  • Ensures the passenger safety brief is completed.
  • Coordinates with Dispatch, Maintenance, other crew members, and external agencies in the planning and execution of flight duties.
  • Operates the aircraft per SOPs, aircraft limitations, and in accordance with applicable FAA/ICAO rules and regulations.
  • Maintains currency requirements by type and ensures the currency of aircraft crewmembers prior to flight.
  • Leads the crew utilizing appropriate crew resource management in the accomplishment of all trip requirements.
  • Completes all postflight duties, including notifying the company of deviations to any planned itinerary or overnight location.
  • Records flight times and aircraft maintenance items.

Skills/Experience

Required Skills:

  • Prior Sikorsky aircraft operating experience as PIC
  • Exhibits enthusiasm, passion, and curiosity for Aviation
  • Inclusive mindset and behaviors
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills and adapt to a dynamic work environment
  • Functional computer application skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Prior work experience in corporate/business aviation
  • Sikorsky S76D Flight Safety Training
  • Total time: 3,000 hours
  • Helicopter time: 2,000 hours (1,500 PIC)
  • Time in type/model: 600 hours
  • Helicopter instrument: 75 hours


Requirements/Qualifications

  • FAA-issued Air Transport Pilot certificate rotorcraft-helicopter
  • Current FAA first-class medical, and ability to maintain
  • Up-to-date immunization/vaccine record (subject to review by Amex Medical)

If you have completed your primary vaccine series but have not yet reached your booster eligibility date, you will be able to come into the office; however, you will need to complete your booster within 30 days of becoming eligible to continue coming in and participating in company-sponsored in-person events.
