Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Remote Pilot & Visual Observer

Amentum is seeking a skilled Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Remote Pilot & Visual Observer to support geospatial data collection, mapping, and GIS database management at the FAA William J Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ. This full-time, on-site position requires an individual capable of operating within a team environment, conducting UAS operations, and processing collected mapping data. The selected candidate will utilize various aerial platforms, image-gathering hardware, and related software to produce high-resolution maps and datasets. The UAS Pilot will collaborate closely with the Chief UAS pilot and serve as Remote Pilot in Command or Visual Observer during data acquisition flights and UAS - GIS Program operations as necessary.

Responsibilities include UAS remote-sensed data collection, storage, quality assurance, and spatial data analysis, as well as spatial data creation, maintenance, and development, and general GIS Program support. Tasks include serving as Visual Observer and/or Remote Pilot in Command, managing flight planning, execution, and risk assessment, conducting pre-flight planning and safety briefings, coordinating with FAA airspace and airport towers, performing drone pre-flight inspections, executing operational needs, documenting mission reports, and performing equipment maintenance. The role also involves collecting, handling, and processing UAS data, conducting ground control surveys, evaluating data accuracy, and preparing related reports.

Position Requirements:

  • Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Minimum of 1 year of UAS experience, preferably with photogrammetry, mapping, or related imagery or laser data.
  • Proven experience planning, coordinating, and executing UAS operations within the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • Minimum of 50 total flight hours operating various UAS platforms (100 hours desired), including fixed-wing and rotorcraft.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel on and off-site as needed.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to master multiple software packages, hardware, and workflows.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer and technology.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.
  • Experience using GPS and GPS RTK field collection equipment and processing software.
  • Applied knowledge of surveying references, such as coordinate systems, projections, datums, geoids, and state plane zones.
  • Proficiency with geospatial mapping software and technologies such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Pix4D, and Drone2Map.
  • GIS and Survey experience (GPS, Total Station, Topographic Mapping).
