Aviation Ground Instructor - Rotary Wing

The Aviation Ground Instructor is responsible for effectively educating Initial Entry Rotary Wing students across a range of critical aviation subjects. These subjects include the Theory of Rotary Wing Flight, Flight Support topics, Navigation, Aviation Weather, and Basic/Advanced Instruments. Candidates will be evaluated on their teaching proficiency through a demonstration class presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver instructional efforts for assigned flight-related subjects in accordance with established regulations, directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing research to ensure all assigned subject area lesson plans and training materials remain current in content, format, and media.
  • Prepare, update, administer, grade, record, and critique examinations within assigned instructional areas.
  • Prepare, update, and present lesson plans and other instructional materials, including computer-based presentations, in accordance with company and government requirements.
  • Provide supplementary instruction to students requiring additional assistance.
  • Participate in safety and academic instructor meetings.
  • Ensure that all training materials, aids, and equipment used within assigned instructional areas are maintained, backed up as appropriate, current, and available in sufficient quantities.
  • Advise supervisors of needed supplies, materials, and training aids in advance.
  • Furnish information and data for reports as requested by supervisors.
  • Execute all other position-related duties as assigned by the director.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess valid FAA Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) Ratings prior to employment.
  • Requires a minimum of three years of general aviation experience.
  • Must be proficient in fundamental computer skills, including word processing, database input, accessing electronic publications, completing electronic forms and grade sheets, and creating visual presentations.
  • Upon hiring, the successful candidate must satisfactorily complete the Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course (CFD-IC) or have completed it within the last five years. Academic classroom facilitation skills are typically covered during the CFD-IC.

Work Environment & Physical/Mental Demands:

This role operates primarily in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. It involves occasional lifting up to 35 pounds, constant sitting while using a computer terminal, and the ability to stand for extended periods of up to one hour. Constant use of sight abilities for reviewing documents and constant use of speech and hearing abilities for communication are required. The position demands constant mental alertness, strong planning and organizational skills, the ability to work effectively within time constraints, and adaptability to changing technologies.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a rotary wing or fixed wing aircraft pilot is highly desirable.
