Aircraft Maintenance Technical Instructor
Job Summary
The Aircraft Maintenance Technical Instructor is responsible for delivering technical instruction to adult learners across various aircraft maintenance disciplines, including airframe, powerplant, avionics, and systems operations. This critical role involves developing comprehensive lesson plans, creating and updating Plans of Instruction (POIs), and facilitating engaging and effective learning experiences for adult professionals. The ideal candidate possesses strong instructional design capabilities, demonstrated experience teaching in professional or technical environments, and deep, hands-on expertise in aircraft maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and delivers technical instructional content specifically tailored to meet the learning needs of adult participants.
- Ensures the successful achievement of training milestones and established program goals.
- Creates, revises, and maintains POIs and lesson plans, ensuring they align with technical manuals, industry best practices, and relevant training standards (e.g., USAF, OEM).
- Facilitates in-person training sessions utilizing a diverse range of instructional methods, such as lectures, hands-on practical exercises, and case studies.
- Evaluates and assesses learner performance through various methods including quizzes, practical assessments, and constructive feedback.
- Coordinates effectively with quality assurance personnel, maintenance leads, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to guarantee that training content remains current, accurate, and technically sound.
- Ensures all training content strictly adheres to applicable maintenance documentation, including Technical Orders (TOs) and OEM manuals.
- Identifies and assesses current and future training needs through thorough job analysis and consultation with management and stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties and assignments as required to support training objectives.
Qualifications
- A minimum of four (4) years of documented experience within the last ten (10) years on F-15 and/or F-16 aircraft is preferred.
- Formal instructor certification (military or commercial) is required; Air Force Basic Instructor Course (BIC) is preferred.
- Experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control is preferred.
- Must be exceptionally organized and detail-oriented.
- Possesses excellent leadership and motivational skills.
- Proven ability to effectively instruct and mentor individuals on complex technical topics and principles.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Aircraft maintenance training requirements.
- Requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience in adult education, instructional design, or technical training roles.
- Familiarity with technical data systems and various types of maintenance documentation.
- Proven track record in developing and delivering effective lesson plans, POIs, and supplemental training aids.
- Possesses strong knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design principles.
- Requires strong communication skills and demonstrated proficiency in classroom facilitation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required; experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) is preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance is required.
- Must successfully complete all Training Certifications required by Virginia Works within six (6) months of the hire date.
