Plane Captain - Line Mechanic
The Plane Captain - Line Mechanic is responsible for performing aircraft handling, servicing, and daily/turnaround inspections. This role provides pre-operational inspections, fuels ground support equipment, and offers technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to employees. The position ensures compliance with safety regulations and maintenance procedures, while providing professional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:

Performs daily and turnaround inspections according to applicable procedures.

Initiates and completes necessary maintenance forms.

Conducts aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established procedures.

Manages aircraft launches and recoveries.
-
Acts as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations.

Tows aircraft and serves as brake rider when required.

Secures and covers aircraft using established procedures.

Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction.

Utilizes two-way communication equipment.

Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.

Adheres to all general and industrial safety rules and regulations.

Ensures safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.

Provides courteous and professional customer service.

Operates portable firefighting equipment.

Maintains cleanliness of the work center.

Performs other qualified duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
-
Two (2) or more years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.

A valid Driver’s License.

Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearance requirements.

Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating the English language, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.

Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.

Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, reach above shoulder level, and push/pull weight up to 70 pounds.

Possession of close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Ability to hear at the normal range.

Must complete a training program and be certified in writing as a plane captain, with semi-annual re-qualification required.

Must be qualified on all assigned T/M/S.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. US Citizenship is required for a Secret Clearance.

Prior military personnel must present a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.

Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience in F-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C, and/or MH-60S is strongly preferred.

Licensing and certification in Hazardous Waste Communications, FOD and TCP Awareness, ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness, and Operational Risk Management (ORM).

Licensed on support equipment, including tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.

May be required to handle hazardous materials.

Ability to utilize eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.

May require the use of a respirator.
Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly rate of pay for this position is $55.75, as set by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
