Aviation Plane Captain - Flight Line Operations
Job Overview
The Plane Captain is responsible for critical aircraft handling, servicing, and conducting daily and turnaround inspections. This role involves performing pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and providing essential technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper personnel.
Essential Responsibilities
- Execute duties and responsibilities as an Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper.
- Perform required daily and turnaround aircraft inspections in accordance with established procedures.
- Initiate and accurately complete all applicable maintenance forms.
- Conduct aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as per established procedures.
- Manage aircraft launch and recovery operations.
- Serve as the aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery.
- Perform aircraft towing and act as an aircraft brake rider when required.
- Secure aircraft by tying down and covering them using established procedures.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members as needed.
- Operate two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Ensure strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adhere to all general and industrial safety rules and regulations applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Ensure the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the work center.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any company/government-required qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language; ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements for aircraft.
- Must be able to work any assigned shift and schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Willingness and ability to travel for cross-country rescues and detachments of indeterminate duration.
Physical Demands
This role requires a full range of physical movements and postures typical of shop, hangar, and flight line maintenance. This includes bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in challenging positions. The position demands good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Lifting of objects up to 70 pounds may be required. The ability to walk and stand on level and inclined surfaces for extended periods is essential. Clear close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are necessary. Normal hearing range is required. Respirator use may be necessary.
Work Environment
Work conditions can vary significantly, from environments with minimal discomfort to those exposed to inclement weather, including extreme temperatures, wind, and rain. Employees may work in areas with high noise hazards, potential electrical shock hazards, and exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
