Aircraft Plane Captain

Job Overview

The successful candidate for the Plane Captain position will be responsible for comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and conducting daily and turnaround inspections. This role also involves providing pre-operational checks and fueling for ground support equipment. The Plane Captain will offer technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper personnel.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities associated with the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
  • Conduct daily and turnaround aircraft inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Initiate and complete all required maintenance forms accurately.
  • Perform aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as required, adhering to established procedures.
  • Execute aircraft launch and recovery operations.
  • Serve as the aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery.
  • Conduct aircraft towing and act as an aircraft brake rider when necessary.
  • Secure aircraft by tying down and covering them, following established procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members as needed.
  • Operate two-way communication equipment effectively.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
  • Adhere to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
  • Ensure the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
  • Deliver courteous and professional customer service.
  • Operate portable firefighting equipment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the work center.
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
  • Undertake all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any company/government-required qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements for aircraft.
  • Must be available to work any assigned shift and schedule.
  • Willingness and ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of indeterminate duration.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Physical Demands:

This role involves a full range of physical movements and postures typical of shop, hanger, and flight line maintenance activities, including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. The candidate must possess good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Occasional lifting of objects up to 70 pounds may be required. The ability to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods is essential. Excellent close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are necessary. Normal hearing range is required. Respirator use may be necessary.

Work Environment:

The work environment can vary from minimal discomfort to conditions with inclement weather, exposing the individual to significant temperature changes, wind, and rain. The role may involve working in areas with high noise hazards, potential exposure to electrical shock hazards, fumes, or airborne particles.
