Overview
A highly skilled and dedicated Plane Captain is sought to oversee critical aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection procedures. This pivotal role involves conducting meticulous daily and turnaround inspections, performing pre-operational checks, and refueling ground support equipment. The Plane Captain also provides essential technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to junior team members, including Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers, ensuring operational excellence and strict adherence to aviation safety protocols.
Essential Responsibilities
- Execute all duties and responsibilities associated with the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications, demonstrating comprehensive operational knowledge.
- Conduct meticulous daily and turnaround aircraft inspections in strict accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Accurately initiate and complete all necessary maintenance forms and documentation related to aircraft servicing.
- Perform aircraft fuel sampling and servicing procedures, ensuring compliance with all established safety and operational guidelines.
- Direct and execute aircraft launch and recovery operations efficiently and safely, maintaining flight line integrity.
- Serve as the primary aircraft taxi director during all launch and recovery sequences, ensuring precision and safety on the flight line.
- Undertake aircraft towing operations and act as an aircraft brake rider when necessitated by operational requirements.
- Securely tie down and cover aircraft using established standard operating procedures to protect assets.
- Offer expert technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development within the team.
- Operate two-way communication equipment effectively to coordinate flight line activities and ensure seamless operations.
- Uphold stringent compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste management, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Ensure strict adherence to all general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and specific job assignments.
- Safeguard the safety, security, and preservation of both government and company-owned equipment and aviation assets.
- Deliver consistently courteous and professional customer service to all stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Proficiently operate portable firefighting equipment as required during emergencies, demonstrating readiness and quick response.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the work center, contributing to a safe and efficient working environment.
- Execute additional qualified duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to overall team success.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent is a mandatory requirement.
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in aviation maintenance and/or dynamic flight line operations is essential.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.
- The ability to obtain and maintain all necessary company or government-required qualifications, certifications, licensing, or security clearances pertinent to the role.
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and verbally communicating in the English language, along with the ability to precisely follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all applicable aviation safety and maintenance manuals, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- A thorough working understanding of aircraft flight line operations, including advanced aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling techniques, the proper use of common hand tools, and strict adherence to normal operational safety requirements for various aircraft types.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift and schedule is required to meet operational demands.
- Readiness to travel for cross-country rescue missions and detachments of potentially varying durations.

Physical Demands
The role necessitates a broad range of physical movements and postures typical of shop, hangar, and flight line maintenance environments. This includes frequent bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and the capacity to work in potentially tiring or uncomfortable positions. Excellent eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are crucial. The ability to lift objects weighing up to 70 pounds is required. Candidates must be capable of walking and standing on level and inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the workday. Essential vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Normal hearing range is also required. Occasional use of a respirator may be necessary.
Work Environment
The work environment is dynamic and varied, ranging from conditions with minimal physical discomfort to those where exposure to inclement weather, including severe temperature changes, wind, and rain, is common.
