Plane Captain
Overview
Amentum seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Plane Captain to join our dynamic aviation team. This pivotal role involves comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection to ensure operational readiness. The successful candidate will also provide crucial technical guidance and instruction, upholding the highest standards of safety and compliance in all flight line operations.
Essential Responsibilities
The Plane Captain performs a wide array of essential duties, including but not limited to:
- Executing daily and turnaround inspections in strict accordance with established procedures.
- Conducting pre-operational inspections and fueling of ground support equipment.
- Initiating and meticulously completing all applicable aircraft maintenance forms.
- Performing aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as required by established procedures.
- Efficiently launching and recovering aircraft, serving as the aircraft taxi director during these critical operations.
- Safely towing aircraft and acting as the aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Securing aircraft through proper tie-down and covering procedures.
- Providing expert technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Utilizing two-way communication equipment effectively during operations.
- Ensuring rigorous compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adhering to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Maintaining the safety, security, and preservation of both government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivering courteous and professional customer service at all times.
- Operating portable firefighting equipment in emergency situations.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the work center.
- Performing other qualified duties as assigned to support operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances for the position.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.
- Physical capability to perform duties requiring climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, reaching above shoulder level, and pushing or pulling weight up to 70 pounds.
- Close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Normal range hearing ability.
- Successful completion of a Plane Captain training program and written certification, with semi-annual re-qualification.
- Qualification on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Flexibility to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
Highly desirable qualifications include:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 aircraft.
- Possession of relevant licensing and certifications, such as:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensing on support equipment (e.g., tow tractor, nitrogen servicing cart, engine wash cart, engine start unit).
- Demonstrated ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Capability to handle hazardous materials as required by assigned duties.
- Willingness to use a respirator if required.
Compensation and Benefits
