Plane Captain
Job Summary
A dedicated and highly skilled Plane Captain is sought to ensure the operational readiness and safe handling of various aircraft types within a dynamic flight line environment. This pivotal role encompasses comprehensive aircraft servicing, meticulous daily and turnaround inspections, and the provision of essential ground support, upholding the highest standards of aviation safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Aircraft Operations & Servicing:
- Executes daily and turnaround aircraft inspections in strict adherence to established procedures.
- Performs comprehensive aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with specified protocols.
- Directs aircraft launch, recovery, and taxi operations with precision and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Conducts aircraft towing procedures, including acting as an aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Secures aircraft through proper tie-down and covering techniques.
- Operates pre-operational inspections and fuels ground support equipment.
- Maintenance & Documentation:
- Initiates and accurately completes all required maintenance forms and documentation.
- Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members as needed.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensures rigorous compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adheres strictly to all general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Safeguards the security, preservation, and cleanliness of government and company-owned equipment and the work environment.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment effectively.
- Communication & Professionalism:
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment for effective coordination.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service.
- General Duties:
- Performs other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Required Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- A minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary government and company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances pertinent to the role.
- Successful completion of a certified Plane Captain training program, with subsequent written certification and semi-annual re-qualification.
- Qualification on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating effectively in the English language, including adherence to verbal and written instructions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable aviation safety and maintenance manuals.
- Thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling techniques, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements for aircraft.
- Physical Requirements:
- Capability to perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, carrying, balancing, reaching above shoulder level, and pushing or pulling weights up to 70 pounds.
- Possession of close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Normal hearing ability.
- Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules, including irregular hours as required.
- Citizenship:
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized Aircraft Experience:
- Demonstrated experience with F-18E/F, EA-18G, E-2C, and/or MH-60S aircraft platforms is highly desirable.
- Certifications and Training:
- Certification in Hazardous Waste Communications.
- Training in Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and Tool Control Program (TCP) Awareness.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness.
- Completion of Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensing for various support equipment, including but not limited to tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Additional Skills & Conditions:
- Proficiency in eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Willingness to handle hazardous materials as required for assigned duties.
- Ability to wear a respirator if necessary.
