Plane Captain - Aviation
Overview
A rewarding opportunity exists for a skilled and dedicated Plane Captain to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing essential aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. This role involves performing daily and turn-around inspections, conducting pre-operational checks, fueling ground support equipment, and providing critical technical assistance and guidance. The Plane Captain operates within established safety protocols and contributes to maintaining the highest standards of aircraft readiness and operational efficiency.
Essential Responsibilities
The Plane Captain performs a range of vital functions critical to flight line operations:
- Executes duties associated with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conducts daily and turn-around inspections in strict adherence to applicable procedures.
- Initiates and completes required maintenance forms and documentation.
- Performs aircraft fuel sampling and servicing operations according to established procedures.
- Manages the launch and recovery of aircraft.
- Directs aircraft taxi movements during launch and recovery operations.
- Tows aircraft and serves as the aircraft brake rider when necessary.
- Ensures aircraft are properly tied down and covered using established procedures.
- Provides essential technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment effectively.
- Ensures rigorous compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Hazardous Waste handling, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Upholds compliance with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations pertinent to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Responsible for the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Delivers courteous and professional customer service at all times.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the work center.
- Performs additional qualified duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates for this position must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Hold a valid Driver’s License.
- Must obtain and maintain all required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and security clearances for the position.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in the English language and follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Possess thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Exhibit thorough working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, including aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, the use of common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of the aircraft.
- Must meet physical requirements, including the ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, reach above shoulder level, and push or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
- Possess close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Have the ability to hear at the normal range.
- Successfully complete a training program and obtain written certification as a Plane Captain, with required semi-annual re-qualification.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite for obtaining a Secret Clearance.
- Required to be qualified on all assigned aircraft Type/Model/Series (T/M/S).
- Prior military personnel must provide a Member 4 DD214 indicating an Honorable character of service discharge.
- Must be available to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates possessing the following qualifications are highly preferred:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, or F-16 aircraft types.
- Hold relevant licensing and certifications, including Hazardous Waste Communications Training, FOD and TCP Awareness Training, ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness, and Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training.
- Licensed to operate various support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Experience handling hazardous materials in the performance of duties.
- Demonstrated ability to use eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity effectively.
- Ability to use a respirator if required.
