Amentum is actively seeking F/A-18 Plane Captains to support critical U.S. Navy Aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, Virginia. This role is essential for maintaining the operational readiness of F/A-18 aircraft.
The selected candidate will serve as an Aircraft Worker, undergoing certification to become a Plane Captain in accordance with a government-approved process. This position involves a variety of tasks vital to flight line operations. The Plane Captain/Aircraft Worker directs incoming and outgoing aircraft near the terminal or flight line parking areas, utilizing hand or light signals to assist pilots with ground maneuvering. The role includes securing aircraft in parking positions using chocks and tie-downs.
Key responsibilities also encompass aircraft flight line servicing, which involves operating service vehicles to replenish fuel and oil. The technician performs pre-flight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections and accurately records servicing details in maintenance logs. Checking for fuel contamination by draining sumps and fuel drains is a required duty. The role necessitates operating ground support equipment (GSE), such as electrical power supplies, tow tractors, and engine starting units. The technician examines tires for specified air pressure and condition, assists in towing aircraft, and maintains cleanliness of both the aircraft exterior/interior and the hangar deck through periodic housekeeping and fluid spill cleanup using standard cleaning tools and equipment. This work may involve up to seven days and 40 hours per week, with potential overtime based on operational tempo.
This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts and travel for detachments, both ashore and afloat (on aircraft carriers).
Candidates must successfully pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check and favorable fingerprints via EQIP. Completion of an SF-85/86 in EQIP may be required to maintain possession of a Common Access Card (CAC). An unfavorable background check could result in termination if eligibility for a CAC identification is not met. Obtaining an approved status from the Contractor Verification system, including a 7-year background check, and securing a Security Clearance for Public Trust are mandatory. The ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization is also required; U.S. Citizenship is necessary for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
Work is performed primarily outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
