Plane Captain
This pivotal role within our aviation team demands a highly skilled and experienced individual to oversee all aspects of aircraft handling, maintenance, and safety. The Plane Captain is responsible for ensuring the aircraft's readiness for flight through meticulous pre-flight inspections, fueling procedures, and adherence to stringent operational protocols. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of aviation safety regulations and will be proficient in a wide range of ground support tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute comprehensive daily and turnaround inspections according to established procedures, meticulously documenting findings and initiating necessary maintenance actions.
- Accurately complete all associated maintenance documentation and forms.
- Proficiently perform aircraft fueling and sampling adhering to all safety regulations and procedures.
- Safely launch and recover aircraft, acting as the taxi director to ensure efficient and secure operations.
- Skillfully tow aircraft and serve as a brake rider as needed.
- Securely tie down and cover aircraft using approved methods.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and assistance to junior team members, including Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively to coordinate operations and maintain communication with other team members.
- Ensure strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention protocols, hazardous waste management guidelines, egress familiarization procedures, and tool control programs.
- Maintain a safe work environment by consistently adhering to general and industrial safety regulations.
- Protect the integrity and security of company and government-owned equipment.
- Provide superior, courteous, and professional service to clients and colleagues.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment competently.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two years' experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is essential.
- A valid driver's license is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any necessary company/government qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English; ability to follow instructions effectively.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Thorough understanding of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, the use of common hand tools, and standard aircraft operational safety requirements.
- Ability to work any assigned shift and schedule, including the possibility of irregular hours.
- Willingness to travel to support cross-country rescues and detachments of varying durations.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
This position requires a wide range of physical movements common to shop, hangar, and flight line environments. This includes frequent bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in potentially uncomfortable positions. The ability to lift up to 70 pounds is essential. Extended periods of standing and walking on both level and uneven surfaces are required. Candidates must possess excellent visual acuity (including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment), hearing within normal range, and may be required to wear respiratory protection.
The work environment can vary, ranging from comfortable indoor settings to outdoor areas exposed to inclement weather, high noise levels, electrical hazards, fumes, and airborne particles.
