Overview
The Plane Captain is a vital member of the aviation maintenance team, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft on the ground. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Performs pre-flight and post-flight inspections, adhering to established procedures.
- Executes daily and turnaround inspections meticulously, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Diligently completes all required maintenance forms, documenting aircraft status accurately.
- Conducts fuel sampling and servicing operations in accordance with strict safety protocols.
- Skillfully launches and recovers aircraft, demonstrating expertise in ground handling techniques.
- Provides clear and concise direction to aircraft during taxiing operations, ensuring safe maneuvering.
- Proficiently tows aircraft and acts as a brake rider when necessary.
- Secures aircraft meticulously, employing proper tie-down and covering procedures.
- Mentors and guides Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and operational excellence.
- Utilizes two-way communication equipment effectively to ensure seamless coordination.
- Champions a safety-first environment, enforcing compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adheres rigorously to all established safety regulations, safeguarding personnel and equipment.
- Operates portable firefighting equipment proficiently, demonstrating preparedness for emergencies.
- Maintains a clean and organized work center, reflecting a commitment to professionalism.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability by performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in aviation maintenance or flight line operations is essential.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License is mandatory.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain any required company/government qualifications, certifications, licenses, or security clearances.
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety and maintenance manuals is crucial.
- Thorough understanding of aircraft flight line operations, including handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and operational safety requirements.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts and schedules is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar role within a fast-paced aviation environment.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
This position requires the ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of potentially unknown duration. The role demands strong hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to use close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The candidate must possess normal hearing and may be required to use a respirator. The position necessitates prolonged periods of walking and standing on level and/or inclined surfaces. The ability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, lift, carry, balance, reach above shoulder level, and push or pull weight up to seventy (70) pounds is essential.
