Senior Technical Instructor (Rotary Wing) - Customer Training Specialist

Airbus Helicopters, Inc. (AHI), a recognized leader in global rotary-wing aviation, seeks an accomplished Senior Technical Instructor to join its elite Customer Training Team based at the U.S. regional headquarters in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Airbus Helicopters Training Center offers North American and global customers a comprehensive curriculum of Pilot and Technician training services across the entire spectrum of Airbus helicopter types.
The Role
The Senior Technical Instructor provides specialized Maintenance Training to external operators and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organizations. This pivotal role ensures that aircraft maintenance technicians receive instruction in strict compliance with relevant regulatory standards, enabling them to expertly maintain sophisticated Airbus products and systems.
Core Responsibilities and Challenges
The Instructor’s duties are primarily focused on the delivery of high-quality technical instruction and the maintenance of exemplary customer experience.
Technical Instruction and Customer Engagement (Approx. 80%)
- Delivers advanced technical instruction to customers and company personnel on Airbus Helicopter products and associated equipment. This instruction includes theory and practical exercises for classes often several weeks in duration.
- Administers comprehensive course exams, quizzes, and homework to trainees, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and retention.
- Acts as the official representative and host for Airbus Helicopters while trainees are onsite, ensuring an excellent and professional customer experience.
- Trains and mentors new instructors joining the Customer Training Team.
- Maintains technical knowledge by regularly attending educational workshops and reviewing industry publications and technical revisions.
- Determines the effectiveness of training programs by monitoring trainee feedback and implementing necessary improvements and modifications.
- Maintains qualifications equal to or exceeding that of a Referent Instructor for at least one specific aircraft type.
Training Support and Administration (Approx. 20%)
- Develops and maintains essential training devices, mock-ups, and tools utilized during practical instruction sessions.
- Maintains an organized, safe, and compliant environment within the classroom and the training hangar.
- Ensures the accuracy and completeness of all required training documentation and student transcripts, submitting them in a timely manner upon course conclusion.
- Incorporates necessary revisions and modifications to course material in strict accordance with Aircraft Service Bulletins (ASB), Service Bulletins (SB), and other relevant documentation.
- Assists in the ongoing development and refinement of homework, quizzes, and examination questions.
Candidate Requirements (The Boarding Pass)
Education and Licensing
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Required: FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License or equivalent license from another Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
- Preferred: BS/BA degree in a relevant field.
- Preferred: FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).
Experience
- Required: Minimum of five (5) years of field maintenance experience on Airbus helicopter products.
- Required: Minimum of three (3) years of formal instructor experience on helicopters.
- Required: Proven experience in ground operations and handling of assigned aircraft types.
- Preferred: Previous Airbus Technical Instructor experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Capabilities
- Required: Extensive and detailed knowledge of helicopter mechanical theory, field maintenance, repair, overhaul, inspection, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Required: Proficient ability to interpret and utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams, inspection guides, and engineering/technical directives.
- Required: Expert knowledge of aircraft systems, flight characteristics, and advanced maintenance techniques.
- Required: Proficiency with modern technical systems including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, and SmartScreen/Video Projection Equipment.
- Preferred: Familiarity with EASA/TCCA/FAA Part 147 rules and regulations as applicable to training centers.
Communication and Instructional Acumen
- Required: Exceptional verbal communication and presentation skills in English.
- Required: Demonstrated ability to command an audience and sustain attention throughout extended training sessions.
- Required: Strong ability to deliver information using a variety of pedagogical techniques, ensuring students across different experience levels and backgrounds grasp and retain complex material.
- Required: Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively when working with language translators.
- Preferred: Bi-lingual capability (French, German, and/or Spanish).

- The position is primarily On-site (95%+) at the Grand Prairie, TX facility.
- Requires approximately 20% domestic and international travel to support customer training needs.
