Air Transport International (ATI) is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated professional to join its Flight Operations Training team as a Ground School Instructor. This vital role is central to maintaining ATI’s high standards of operational safety and excellence by providing comprehensive ground instruction to pilots and designated flight operations personnel. The Instructor will be responsible for both curriculum development and dynamic classroom delivery within ATI’s rigorous training framework.

Role Purpose and Objectives

The Ground School Instructor is tasked with designing, developing, and conducting sophisticated ground school training for ATI pilots and other designated Flight Operations groups. This instruction must strictly adhere to established ATI standards. A primary objective is the objective measurement of student training progress throughout the established curriculum. This position encompasses extensive curriculum design work, including the creation of distance learning modules, virtual classroom content, lesson plans, and the upkeep of critical training materials and publications.

Key Responsibilities and Functions

The successful candidate will perform the following essential duties:

  • Curriculum Development: Design and develop comprehensive training curricula, learning materials, and performance support tools utilizing industry best practices. Modalities include traditional classroom instruction, web-based training (WBT), training videos, and virtual training environments.
  • Instructional Delivery: Provide high-quality ground school instruction to Flight Operations personnel on required and company-selected elements. Maintain a consistently positive and professional learning environment. Instruction should incorporate scenario-based training methodologies to the fullest extent possible for pilots.
  • Documentation and Revision: Assist in the crucial revision and maintenance of aircraft operating manuals.
  • Quality Improvement: Collaborate closely with the Manager of Operations Training, Manager of Standards, and fellow Ground Instructors to continuously enhance the training product, content, and overall student experience.
  • Technological Integration: Interface with the Information Technology (IT) department to ensure all electronic training equipment is fully operational and to recommend hardware improvements as necessary.
  • Evaluation and Reporting: Evaluate students' progress and performance, document issues and problems encountered, and prepare required documents and reports.
  • Classroom Management: Manage classroom setup and maintain the currency of all training publications and materials.

Minimum Position Requirements (Qualifications)

Candidates must satisfy the following essential criteria:

  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of proven flight instruction or ground instruction experience acquired at a Part 121 or Part 135 Air Carrier operation.
  • Training Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in training delivery, communication, and presentation skills, including the capability to develop compelling presentation and training materials.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of computer-based training (CBT) platforms and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Organizational Acumen: Excellent time management, prioritization skills, and the proven ability to multitask effectively and manage multiple competing objectives.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Ethic: Ability to work independently with minimal direction while simultaneously fostering strong collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility: Willingness and ability to work various shifts and weekends when operational needs necessitate.

Preferred Job Skills and Experience (Assets)

Highly competitive candidates will possess the following desirable qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • A Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating or a Ground Instructor Certificate (AGI) with an Instrument rating.
  • Acceptable prior instructor experience, including service as a military pilot/flight engineer instructor or pilot/flight engineer instructor within a Part 142, Part 135, or Part 121 operation.
  • Substantial flight or ground training experience on airline transport category aircraft.
  • An Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic’s License.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Employees in this role are routinely required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and utilize hands and fingers for operating a computer and telephone keyboard. Compliance with ATI attendance requirements is mandatory. The role occasionally requires light to moderate lifting.
